547 A429 bracket engine
Ran my 547 for the first time yesterday. Car is a 68 cougar tube chasssis car all mild steel, factory glass and all. Weight is 3155 with me in it race ready. Engine is a D9 block .040 over with a lunati 4340 crank and h beam rods. Icon flat top pistons that are .019 in the hole. Cam is a lunati 51606 solid roller .735/.735 lift and 270/280 @ .050 A429 heads that have had some serious work done to em, unknown porter or flow numbers. motorsport victor intake that has also had a bunch of work done on it. 1150 dominator on 114 race gas. Its got a glide with 1.80 planetaries in it. I ran 4 passes in it first was 6.11, so i added 3 degrees of timing to be 34 total, ran 5.98, 5.98, 6.00 before i got eliminated. I think there may be more left in it, as the plugs look pretty rich, I'm leaving the line at 2000 on the footbrake shifting at 6400 and crossing the 1/8th at 6600. For the first time out i'm really happy with this setup.

Were those heads run before, or did you have them worked and the springs are new?

Re: 547 A429 bracket engine
just an update on this post, ive been fighting with the car either popping in the upper rpm or just not revving above 5500, tried all sorts of things, rewired the whole car, changed from gas to methanol, changed cam, changed everything i could think that would cause the issue. Ran it yesterday after changing the msd box to a new 6al-2, no difference at all. Got pissed, came home, a buddy said to try his 7al-3 box, installed it last night, went back today for the ihra race, car ran great. ran 5.86 right off the trailer, 5.82 after that. was running a 1.238 to a 1.25 60ft. still footbraking it. made it to the 3rd round of eliminations and the damn thing slowed to a 6.13, thought what the hell now. pulled back to the pits and cranked it over. sure enough you cold hear one hole that was dead. so cranked it up, got a squirt bottle and hit the headers. Number one was dead. Pulled the valve cover to see a broken rocker stud. Broke off right at the base of the threads. Plus the damn fuel pump was leaking so my day was done. I'm really proud to have finally found the problem. Its kinda like banging your head on the wall trying to find problems like that.
