identifying unknown piston
there may not be an easy way to figure this out hope it is. got a guy with some old ross pistons for a 545 bbf engine. there is a number scribed on the piston i assume to be the job number which is 57155c. i called ross and the guy said this piston was over 10 years old and he couldn't tell me much about it. when the guy bought them he was told they were for blue thunder heads. they have a rather large dome on them and i could probly figure out the valve angles the releifs are cut on. i would like to figure out what they fit. thanks

Lance depending what he wants for them. they may not be a good deal if you have no Idea what they are......or what head they fit...might be cheaper to just buy new...

Re: identifying unknown piston
The job # should be on the pin boss . Ross should be able to tell you what they are from that #...unless they purge the jobs after a certain amount of years .
Re: identifying unknown piston
i will try to get him to run them back by and get some pics. they are a customers pistons he bought them with a rotating assembly. he's not going to use them anyway just thought if i could find out what they were it would be easier to sell and maybe get him a few more dollars for them. the guy at ross said they were over 10 years old by that job number and has no record of it.

Ross has every job card they've ever done...all the way back to when I was doing them without computer.
Call them and ask for Chris Madsen....or email him at chris@rosspistons.com.

There are two Chris'. I just deal with Madsen to avoid frustration.
I can have him get the job card on Monday if you'd like.

Re: identifying unknown piston
Yep, they've helped me with pistons back to the early 1990's.Mark O'Neal wrote:Ross has every job card they've ever done...
You mean back when Probe was in Lancaster? "Hey, why does my new set of Probe pistons have the "XL437" forging number embossed on the underside?" Yes, Mark, I have been a customer of yours (in one form or another) for that long.Mark O'Neal wrote:...all the way back to when I was doing them without computer.

Re: identifying unknown piston
Actually all the way back to when I was sharing an office with Moe Mills. About 1982.........
They still do all of our custom pistons.
I have the job card on those pistons if you need it. Oddly enough your buddy bought them from us....on the XL437 forging.
If Paul tells you that the Mayans are right...........................duck..

Re: identifying unknown piston
Mark I actually have two different sets I'm curious about, both from Probe not Ross, that I'd like to get sheets on. One of them needs a duplicate slug made up so I'd really like the spec sheet. BTW, you in Torrance next Monday/Tuesday? I will be and might drop by.Mark O'Neal wrote:I have the job card on those pistons if you need it.

Speaking of dragging my buns down there, how is my intake manifold coming along? It's only been there since last MAY.
Re: identifying unknown piston
