Anyone know how close the Forged L2366f piston is to cast 429 piston?
I got a TRW book and there around 800 grams without pin i think. I guess I need to pull a stock piston off a rod and weigh. Just figured someone long time ago went through this and this a low budget cruiser engine as I got a perfect 429 crankshaft. If they are alot heavier then I find a 460 crank. Thanks..,Ed

I just happened to have a stock 1968 429 flat top piston on hand, so I threw it on the scale for you.
Piston = 809 grams
Pin = 180 grams
Rings = 62 grams
--------------------
Total = 1051 grams
You can use pins of different material and/or thickness to add or subtract weight to some extent if needed.
Hope that helps.

The L2366F is about 1000g with supplied pin.
If you have a block with a 10.32” deck height, then you could cut the crown down about 0.100”, thereby losing about 60g of dead weight, and then use them with a 460 crankshaft in your “budget cruiser engine.”
Note: if used with a 460 crank then small chamber heads will likely require re-cutting of the valve pocket, whereas D3VEs (10:1 c/r) should not.
