How Strong is the L2366F piston new from TRW?
How strong are the Heavy L2366F pistons? There the figure 8 CJ piston. Just heard the skirts like to break. Surely if it don't detonate it can handle a few times a shot of nitrous 150-200 to 6500 rpms or so. Think going with 4340 I-Beams Rods. Hate hearing this after I bought the pistons new lol. 550-600 HP N/A, mostly used to cruise inns is the plan..,ED

Imo Get a 460 crank and some better pistons
Or if you already have the rods an older 4.3 ford racing crank and some flattops.
You will be way ahead of the game and make a bunch more power for very little money.

I'm on tight budget and would like just to get it done at some point, done went fast. Just like to know my options. Might just use stock rods like planned if pistons so weak. If car wasn't setup for a bigblock i probably thrown a smallblock in it. Heck it still run in the 10s with a 429 and flattappet. My health don't need it too fast so I doubt I ever spray it anyway. Only got $250 in pistons and rings.

If its just for motor only, no nitrous, use them!! They are strong enough to take naturally aspirated abuse....so log as you're not detonating on them like a Sherman Tank!!

Thanks, i figured they be strong enough for N/A , But A guy that has ran 429s alot told me they are a bad design basically, suppose from the figure eight designed sides. I like to have some fun with my son , but mainly like Leave a running car to my Son. Just frustrating when you can't hardly do anything physically and come across problems never put on the internet lol. Unless I hear from someone that ran these pistons i'm afraid to try and build it. Don't want my boy crashing, wonder if I can sell a Kidney Thanks for the Advice, figured these be a step up from KBs. I really thought the short stroke would help out with the weight issue a tiny bit tell 6500 rpms or so.

With their 1.89” c/u and 1000g weight, they are top heavy. They were originally designed with a 0.002” piston-to-wall spec and since most people set them up looser than that the skirts may see more loads than typical.ED468 wrote:How strong are the Heavy L2366F pistons? But they are a rugged piston. Set them up for 500hp and a small shot of N2O and you should be fine. Unless you cut the pin bores for clips you will be very limited on con rod choices.
Re: How Strong is the L2366F piston new from TRW?
Thanks Paul!! I worry too much, can't help it lol I know it can't handle a lot of abuse but not building a race motor. The piston have a groove for clips with the black Teflon coating. Look square, need to find out if spirol locks are what it needs. Blocks bore is right at 4.39 so what ever is in the piston should be close to the Piston to wall clearance. Hope to get 12-14 mpg on highway with 3.55s. I just had to shake the feeling of building a bomb, thanks..,Ed

I figure the weight of the piston will be more detrimental to rod failure than piston damage if the rpm goes too high.
Keep it under 6000 and spray it.............

Agreed.
Re: How Strong is the L2366F piston new from TRW?
Do ya think a 4340 I-beam with the short stroke could handle 6500 RPMs?. Don't know if I will spray, but good to have a Idea if I do. Would'nt be that many times , just converter will like slip and become very inefficient if I shift too early on spray, it makes alot of torque that way .
