Mild or wild 545?
Hello to everyone, I am new to the registery. Help me come to an estimate on what kind of power my 545 will make. Here it goes. 545 stroker with 9:68:1 compression, dove-c heads 2.190 int 1.760 exh valves with port matching and ground out emission titty in the exhaust ports. 2.250" primary headers. Roller rockers stock ratio, lunati voodoo hyd flat tappet .582" .600'' 241* 249* duration at 50 with no adv or rtd. Hei ignition, weiand stealth dual plane and 870 holley.
Thanks Friends'
AJ
ps My guess would be around 520-580 crank horse with about 600 ft lbs

How many rpm's? I say ditch the dual plane manifold. Of course the cubes will kill a lot of the cam as well. What are you doing with it?

The Stealth isn't going to be that bad with that combo, IMHO, but that carb is waaaayyyy to small. A 1050 would be a minimum, and a dommie would be the best choice, and a Stealth has to be modded to get a dommie on top. A good ported Victor and a Quick Fuel carb and that thing will be close to 600 fwhp depending on how well the heads were prepped.

Not having head flow numbers I'd guess in the 450-500 range. Carb is definetly on the small side.

Headers are too large for Dove heads imo, I would think maybe a 2" to 2 1/8" would be better

Given the lack of flow rates for your heads and the light port work you have described I feel you should crack 500 HP at somewhere around 5,000 RPM. The more bowl work you do to accomodate the large valves the better your flow rates will be. The most bang for the buck is with in 1.5" of the valve. Stroker engines NEED good airflow. A proper love rubbin is essential!!!
With a really good set of heads, be they fully worked iron or out of the box aluminum, those combos are capable of generating about 540 to 550 HP and 600+ pound feet of torque. A bit more with fully worked aluminum.
A single plane intake like the tfs track heat or even the torquer II will make more peak power. Ditch the 870 street avenger and get an HP 950 holley!!!

Who in their right mind runs a choke on a motor like this??? Need at least an 1150 dominator to feed that beast, and thats at the very least. With better heads and more cam there's no reason you cant make 700hp.

Someone who will need the fire up the engine when it's 15F so that they can get to work. Not saying that the OP needs a carb with a choke. They did say it was a street/strip application. And if it's a 90% street application, running w/o a choke might not be the best choice. Not denying that you'd get more out of the engine w/o the choke.

I forget that other placed in the world have a tendancy to freeze over in the winter, lol. Guess things will get a little "interesting" if I ever decide to move out of the desert (and an elevation of 3500 feet). Still needs more carb...
