Boring a 460 .080 should be a last resort unless it is an aftermarket block. The cubic inch gain & horsepower will be very minimal & the block is junk if it gets any knicks in it from engine failure.

IMHO, .080 is only AFTER a sonic check verifies that there is enough metal to allow it safely.

Wouldn't that be a hone job?

I think when you get to .080 that is max bore unless you sleeve the cylinders .

You'd be absolutely amazed at the number of stock blocks that are running around at +.140 (4.500). All it takes to find ones that will go there is some searching AND a good sonic checker.

WOW , that is hard to believe that they are still holding together but I guess it all depends on what you are doing with the block . I mean daily driver , mild build or a blown enginie . I know there is a lot of meat in the block but still not sure how much is too much .

Well, the kid put 200+ passes on his 490 "seat time" motor. 4.500X3.85=490. Admittedly, there was one section at the bottom of one bore, (below ring travel) that was only .065 thick on a non thrust side...but it caused no problems. I've found a few blocks that were better than that one.
