Guy's this is my first A460 block build,so I have another ? that I forgot to ask Lem. Would it hurt to shave a little from the sides of the main caps ,so the pan will clear the caps?

My caps are shaved on my A460 block. David Willingham did it for me. He took .050 off the both sides of each cap. He left the little step that sticks up .010 above the pan rail so it doesn't weaken the cap where it registers in the block. The step is made up for by the pan gasket. The little extra clearance by shaving the caps made my out of the box Moroso pan fit like a glove.

Rick I had to lay my main caps in the bridgeport and come up about 3/16 of an inch and remove a small amount on each side I think I removed .090 and put them on and they cleared. so yes you can , I clamped all mine in the vise together and cleared them. so they would be the same..... just don't get to close to the register surface....Nice job Dave

X3 have had similar stuff done to my A460 Blocks to fit std pans.

some of the higher end specific race pans will clear without clearancing the caps.

Did the exact same thing on my A-460 to clear the Moroso pan. It makes you appreciate the material the block and caps are made of.

The A460 gasket is 3/32" [.094"] thick...we prefer to do any cap end mods .070" or above the pan rails.

Shaving the main caps Charliespan005Small

A properly designed pan does not require main cap mods . Notice the reliefs in the pan rail .
