Big ice storm on the way............

at work here in Broken Arrow and it's a mix of rain/sleet. Enjoyed the 60 degree weather yesterday. Wasn't it Will Rogers who said "if you dont like the weather in Oklahoma, wait a minute for it to change". Stay warm!

Just talked to Jon's wife Jon is out starting the Gen in the race trailer they lost power, lots of Icy sleet and a mess..... Ice hanging from the power lines and trees, trees breaking continueous...... I have about 4 or so inches of Snow on the ground, not ice here so far and still snowing. We are getting the wrap around so it is still coming....... Stay warm Jon....

power went out 2 hours ago, got the wii and the comp going but the heat wont power up, got a call intot the heat and air guy......hes out feeding the cows lol.

Got severe ice, trees snapped of everywhere, no damage a chainsaw wont fix.

Mostley sleet now with thunder and lightning................

It's raining pretty good here now and freezing up. I just went out to start my truck and it's covered in ice. Oughta be a nice ride into work in the morning. Stay safe!

Don't know how far south this storm is supposed to get, but it's been raining all day here in the DFW area & it's starting to get colder. Hopefully the rain won't turn to ice.

The newer high efficiency furnaces are very sensitive to voltage spikes. Real easy to burn the circuit boards out with generator power. Depending on what generator you have, the voltage isn't always spot on. Don't ask me how I know...

cable went out last night, back on now.

Power never went off again, tree damage here is unreal. I see no damage other than the limbs.

What size generator do you have and what type of heat do you have?

Its a 5000 watt genny, it is a newr Lennox unit with the circuitboards and such, when plugged to the generator one of the dignmostic lights was blinking fast...didnt look the code up. might be the generator is not grounded??? anyway I'll just leave that deal alone and if we loose it I'll plug in some space heaters. Worse case the shop has a gas only heater, we could set up down there lol.

No power at the dealership today, or all of downtown for that matter. They had one of the huge highline towers fall down and shut the turnpike down here south of town................

Looks like I get to put in a good weekend on the 81...............

That's the issue we had during last years ice storm.....Phillip had to bring his Honda inverter over to make my furnace work right .

Dirty or uneven voltage from a generator can cause issues but if this is a heat pump a 5 kw gen is not enough to start that system up. If is is gas heat the 5 kw should be enough if you can get a consistant voltage

dont run the heat pump off the gen .... just run it in emer. mode

Its not a heat pump, uses gas burners and uses elect to tun the purge fan and the main blower. I can run the blower in the "fan" mode, but it wont light the burners and such. No emergency mode i know of. I'll just leave it be, my luck I'll burn it up lol.

Guy that works with me in the diesel area of the shop and our helper have no power in their towns, we are lucky we have it here at the house.

All downtown Chickasha is without power....................hope its on by Monday............I have a lot of work to get done......may have to break out the hand tools lol.

The gas furnace circuit boards dont like the dirty /uneven power from the generator you might be able to get an invertor/filter you could hook up and make it work if you really need to. Good Luck

Sounds like a genny ain't much good for running a furnace.

A few years ago they had a huge ice storm in Quebec. A guy took the rad out of his truck and put it in the house and hooked up long hoses to the engine. The power was out for weeks and this kept him nice and warm!! Used a sh*t load of gas tho.....

looks like this is gonna be a nasty system,heck its snowing here in ga, and that never happens. it was 66 degrees and sunny yesterday,spent all day in the shop working on the car,today is freakin 22 degrees and miserable..all you midwest folks be safe

heck of a temp difference here in SC (about an hour east of Augusta). 60* and sunny.

Not too bad in Michigan here, a dusting of snow and colder than a witches tit. No precip of any to come just plain fricking cold

The rain finally stopped before the cold really set in & it looks like all we are getting is the damn damn cold air. Temp now (9:30) is 25*, haven't looked at the news yet to see how low it will get tonight. Global warming my azz.
