Working on a 557 with dooe-r heads in a rear engine dragster (bracket car). On race gas @ 14.5 compression, what is best total timming for the old school, cast iron heads?

I have seen dyno sheets @ 44 That I find hard to believe, bsfc was over 1.

Can anyone give me any insight ?

TIA Charlie

Start at 32*...move 1-2*up or down untill the e.t. slip says ...no.

With a good intake, a lot of cam and dome for compression in a small motor w/big bore. 35 has usually been the max. Generally around 33* is the sweet spot, maybe up 1.

Tell the Chevy guys you don't need 50cc of mountain for the flame to climb over!

I can't see 44 degrees being right for any engine unless the pointer is not correct(most likely). I can't believe that 33 degrees would be far from optimum one way or the other.
