Re: Jack Rouch's Maverick ?
The car ran 9.40's with just the 505" motor and no turbos. From what I've learned, the car had issues with lifting the front end at the big end with the turbos under boost. I don't know that it was ever run on a track all out with the turbos. It has never had a harness in it from what I can find, so it would have never passed tech at a legal track running as fast as it does.

Re: Jack Rouch's Maverick ?
Hello guys, and especially to you Gapster and Sudden Death.
I mentioned this to Charlie Evans while riding back to the hotel after the tech seminar.
Thought it would be "GREAT" if we could get Wayne Gapp up to one of our seminars.
I know he flies south for the Winter, But maybe you could work on your Dad for us Gappster??? How about it Uncle Charlie???
FYI, Wayne Gapp was head of 385 series development while still employed by Ford back in the day. Sure would be great to get him up here with us for one of our seminars for sure.
Send our regards to your Dad Jeff.
Regards.
Al

Gapp & Roush Mustang II Update
Thought I'd post an update now that I've gotten a bit done on the car. Replaced the fuel system under it with stainless braided/AN fitting setup. Installed new battery cables front to rear. Just wanted to get it safe to even have it in the garage with fuel in it Installed new master cylinder, 5 lug rotors, calipers, hoses, etc. I think the move to 5 lug was a good choice. Installed correct size tires on the restored wheels. All 4 of the wheels had incorrect lug nuts on them! They had taper seat lug nuts on washers/wheels designed for the shank style lugs. Rear tires are 30-13.5-15 M/T ET Streets and fronts are D70-14 Firestone Wide Ovals. Also adjusted the coil overs to get the rear end down a bit. Could still use another inch. I have the correct leaf springs and vintage bars now, so when I get to it, restoring the rear suspension will sit the car back where it belongs in the rear. My driveway isn't flat, so its a bit misleading, but the car sits great now and front isn't in the weeds any more with the little donuts that were on it when I got it.
Thanks for letting me ramble! It runs good, but one of the turbos is blowing oil. After all it sat for literally a couple of decades, so the seals can't be in good shape. Next project is turbo removal and header fabrication.

Re: Jack Rouch's Maverick ?
It's looking great. Are you thinking of putting it back to the original silver paint?

Re: Jack Rouch's Maverick ?
Most definitely going back to silver paint. Its a must. Can't wait to get to that point! My guess is that as bad as silver cars tended to fade, it probably didn't last long even when new. The white is flaking off in large pieces and apparently it wasn't well prepped, since it looks like in some areas they just scuffed up the original paint and painted right over it.

Re: Jack Rouch's Maverick ?
This car has sure been an adventure so far. I've tried to gather as much of its history as I can. It has been "off the radar" for decades and not many of these cars survived intact, so sharing this one is certainly a privilege. Thanks guys for the motivation!

Re: Jack Rouch's Maverick ?
Sure does Mark. The aprons have had work done on them, but the rails are still original in the front. The motor was set back 10 inches and the firewall/trans tunnel moved back into the car though.
