Re: connecting rods
Someone probably mentioned everything at one time or another.
Windage (as it pertains to rods) is a myth.

Re: connecting rods
Top Fuel engines use I-beams.
I have seen tons of H-beam engines live a long time. I have a buddy that brackets races and this past weekend he surpassed the 1000 pass mark on his 427W engine. Since he built it, he has changed valve springs twice and bearings once but has never had the motor out of the frame. I know it only makes about 500hp but that is a lot of passes.

Re: connecting rods
More important than that is how you can be in McKinney and Abilene at the same time.......do your atoms act as waves?.....

I live north of McKinney but the car is south of Abilene at my brothers. Sometimes it seems that I am at two places at once. I like to read about people complaining about traveling "up to 30 miles" to a track on some other forums. Hell, in Texas 30 miles is close. The closest track that we race at is 240 miles from where my brother lives. This year there will be times that we run in Penwell (west of Odessa, Texas) one weekend and in Crandall (east of Dallas) the next and maybe Baytown (east of Houston) the next.

Re: connecting rods
There are certainly a lot of tracks closer than 240 miles from Abilene. Sounds like he feels the traveling part is the most fun.
I mean, you have Abilene plenty close, Wichita Falls, Midland, Lubbock, Kennedale, Ennis, San Angelo, Denton all about 2 hrs of travel time. Traveling from McKinney opens up all new options.

Re: connecting rods
IMHO it all comes down to the forging of the rod. All things equal an H-beam can take more shearing force before it breaks than an I-beam which really comes into play in engines with long crank throws, long rods, and high RPMs. If you are worrying about twisting force then something else has gone horribly wrong or you're running a rotary.

Re: connecting rods
I remember in 1972 when a large group of the factory supported Mopar racers were gathered at the Chrysler Training Center in Hamtramick, that Dr. Tom Hoover, the father of the 426 Hemi, said; "The purpose of the connecting rod, is to connect the piston to the crankshaft,,,,PERIOD!" Meaning that he did not want to get into a debate about long rods verses short rods, or rod ratio, or steel rods verses alum. rods.
I was there and I believe that he probally would have said the same thing in regards to this debate over I-beam verses H-beam rods.

Sometimes it beats arguing about politics and religion......even with the same conclusion.

Thats funny coming from a guy that brings up religion (or the lack thereof) more than anyone else I have run across on this large internet thingy.

Re: connecting rods
Ever seen me do it here?
And I don't often, if ever, bring it up. I will, however, debate it at the drop of a hat, if you're so inclined.

We agree on most issues, this will just never be one of them.

Re: connecting rods
We don't need to. I don't even take up the issue with someone that is sincere in their beliefs.
