MSD Digital 7 plus problem
Guys I have a problem I was getting ready to fire a new engine tonight in a car I am not used to. The car has a MSD Digital 7 Plus unit. I thought I would just check the coil wire for spark before we get cranking on it and there is none. The little red light that is located on the top of the box is lit, I have checked for current all the way back to the wires coming out of the box for the coil but nothing. I used a test light and nothing. I feel its got to be something simple but I cant find the problem. Also I have power to the starter, water, fan, fuel, ANy help or ideas welcome so please chime in.
Thanks Tore

Re: MSD Digital 7 plus problem
my 7530t did that out of the blue 2 weeks before the bash last year ...... 265 dollars later it was repaired ... they are very sensitive to 16 plus volts always make sure to dissconnect the batt before charging
also did you try the test spark ...by grounding the white wire ?

White Wire Trigger:
If you are using the White wire (points or electronic amplifier) of the MSD to trigger the ignition, follow these steps.
Make sure the ignition switch is in the Off position.
Remove the coil wire from the distributor cap and position the terminal so it is approximately 1/2" from a good ground.
Disconnect the MSD White wire from the distributor points or the ignition amplifier.
Turn the ignition to the On position. DO NOT CRANK THE ENGINE.
Tap the White wire to ground several times. Each time the wire is pulled away from ground a spark should jump from the coil wire to ground. If spark is present, the ignition is working properly

Re: MSD Digital 7 plus problem
I have been on their website looking and I have seen some other trouble shooting info.I never realized it was available. I saw the info you described. I have a MSD dist and I believe that is a magnetic pick up and I believe I have to jumper the dist wire and check the coil wire for spark as you specified. I will try tomorrow. I hate electrical problems.

Re: MSD Digital 7 plus problem
Well I went out and tested the Ign system and the coil and it tested good. SO I have to see why I dont have a spark from the coil wire. And that tested good.

Re: MSD Digital 7 plus problem
Rick,
I appreciate it but I am going to swap out distributors. I followed the test procedures that MSD has on their website and its throwing a spark in test mode so I will have to do some more digging tonight. But Thats real nice of you though.

Re: MSD Digital 7 plus problem
My first MSD dizzy lost a pickup in the staging lanes at a race. Went to the trailer and installed a new one from a old (Fomoco)dizzy. It was still in there when I traded the car for LiL Tweety.
