so finally the new
McAmis body made it! I have to admit Im not crazy about the "cowl induction" that is probably going to have to be taken out. I may order a hood from VFN and use the center part of that. I never did like cowl induction hoods on Fords.
On the bright side the front air dam is very nice Mcamis did a great job there. AND here's the kicker, the whole thing is just 99 lbs. SWEET!

I dunno Jeff. I sure dont need the hood clearance so its just cosmetic. I like the clean lines of the original hood. Im old skule like that i guess. sound betterthan old timer anyway.

Re: so finally the new
Looks damn good Jerry. You might think about keeping the cowl because it could help provide more engine clearance than a flat hood allowing you to sit the body a little lower to the ground. Of course how much it helps can depend on the power adder used. I really like how they changed the angle of the grill/bumper/spoiler to make the nose more aero & swoopy, and they did it without screwing up how it looks. That's a much better looking nose than some of the older body styles out there where they go way too far modifying the nose to where they look more like a funny car than a door car.
Soooo many questions........
Do the rocker panels attach separately, or did they molded them into the bottom of the doors?
How wide is the front & rear of the body compared to a stock Mustang, did they narrow the body any?
What wheelbase range can this body fit without modifying it?

Re: so finally the new
I cant answer all of those qustions but I can answer a couple.
the power adder is a 14-71 hi helix front discharge littlefield blower with good billet rotors.
the body is 112 so it is longer
the width appears to be stock.
As far as getting the body lower, I dont think that will be a problem for Andy. alot of the blower is going to be out in the air anyway.
the front end will be a triangulated double frame rail type as opposed to a A pillar bar to strut type suspension so the body should suck down real close to the ground. an give plenty of room for the zoomies.
Andy doesnt play around when building a car so expect some pics of the chassis in about a month. He is working on a cutlass right now but should be starting on my car towards the end of march.
still not a fan of the cowl induction, it looks to chevelle ish to me.

Re: so finally the new
Don't know why but didn't see too many of the triangulated strut tripod setups at the Ennis ADRL event at the end of last year. There for a while a bunch of cars had the tripod, probably because Vanishing Point was cranking out a ton of them & had success with them.
A while back I bought a set of used 36" T/F tires Bill Kuhlman had for sale in the ND. While talking the subject of the tripod vs conventional strut chassis setups came up. Bill said he had run both over the years and there wasn't really any huge performance benefit one way or the other. Each setup worked a little better than the other on different ends of the track.
But he did say that the tripod's biggest benefit was more the ease of maintenance than it was track performance, especially with a blown application. So that right there is a pretty good reason to try the tripod setup.

Yep I can go along with that. More room for Zoomies. I've heard they dont work as well for lower HP cars because they are so stiff.
Here's a pic of a Nova tri front end Pro Tree Race cars recently built. Pro tree is doing my chassis.

Re: so finally the new
I think the double frame rail tripod stuff is actually a little more flexible firewall forward than a conventional car with double frame rails & firewall to strut down bars, kinda like how a funny car chassis is in that area. I think the idea is to let the front of the chassis flex a little more & do a little more of the "suspension's" job freeing up some more of the shock/strut adjustment window to work with when fine tuning.jsracing wrote:I've heard they dont work as well for lower HP cars because they are so stiff.
I think VP said that in their opinion the tripod stuff was safer in a front end impact crash than a conventional P/M chassis for the driver. This was because with the firewall to strut down bars not in the picture, the rest of the chassis absorbs more of the crash energy instead of transferring it back to the driver.
Over the years many of the big name P/M builders have tried the tripod setup. But it might be a toss up as to who came up with the idea first & made it work. I know VP had been doing them forever, as did the Australian chassis builder Murray Anderson on his P/M torque/swing arm cars.

Looks like fun... Always nice to play with new parts. After getting some sticker shock from the McAmis website, I see I won't be getting one of those front ends!
I'm with ya on the hood scoop, the factory lines are excellent as is.

What is the total height adjustment range the chassis brackets can be moved?

Not sure Dave I'll have to check.
Re: so finally the new
looking good Jerry.
I can't wait to see it make some noise.
I wish we lived a little closer to you and Andy. I'd love to be Andy's free apprentice on your build.
The knowledge learned would be worth more than $$. And I can tig weld .

Re: so finally the new
dont let andy hear you say that, he'll get u a live in cot lol
We brought the aluminum block and a mock up head to Andy's Monday so he could get the rails placed right.
the Koni rear electric shocks came in so we dropped those off too. snagged those on ebay NEW for less than 1K
Lencodrive should be in early next week also need it for mount locations.
wont be long!
