Flat top pistons
I am looking to get a set of flat top pistons for my build eventually. (financial issues bla bla bla) Where would be a good place to look? Some of the places I have looked do not have flat tops in the standard bore size for the 460.
FWIW I am using D3 heads.

If you want to stay with standard bore you'll probably have to make a custom piston.
We don't even do a standard bore piston for Ford Motor Company.

Thoughts on these pistons? I am not doing anything extreme. Just a mild build. Trying to stay away from milling heads, or block.

You have two basic options. Either a set of customs...or bore the block .030 and use a Probe, KB, SRP or whichever you like

Re: Flat top pistons
Final noob question, are custom pistons big bucks? Like over $500? Or?

A Ross, for example, will be about $800.00 plus wrist pins.

Re: Flat top pistons
The only standard bore, flat-top forged pistons I know about are the F3JE original Ford Marine pistons. They haven't made new "stock" in years.
Re: Flat top pistons
The closest thing you'll get to a flat top piston is in the 460 Fuel Injected engine. I want to kick my butt cuz I never documented what years. The first years came with a flat top and a large chamber head. Then they change it to the cayon piston and the small chamber head.
In any event I have a set of factory rods / pistons assy out of the FI with flat tops. If ya want them, they are stock, make me a offer I can't refuse. (PM me)
I can add a pic of them if your serious. The engine ran great that they came out of.
Hope this helps you!

Westsideford, you have a pm.
Man if I had known what I know now I would have just dropped the stock 460 in my truck instead.
I am at the point where I just want the fool thing running, and I was informed the other day by my dad that the neighbor next door is not too happy about my truck sitting.
All I need to throw the stock engine back together is a intake, distributor and a smaller cam. And a short tail shaft for the C6.
