9" 3.062 vs. 3.250-Minor Dilemma-Opinions Wanted
I have a Moser nodular 3.062 case that I bought about 5-6 years ago and it has been sitting since. At the time, I could go up to 35 spline Moser axles and spool with this case....can't now.
I can get a Mark Williams or Richmond 35 spline spool for the 3.062 case and have my new axles splined for them...OR...I could spend the extra coin and go ahead and get the 3.250 case and spool....just extra $$$ that I wasn't anticipating.
What do you guys think? Is the larger bearing case worth the extra money, when, you NEED to be spending money on other stuff? IE...slicks, diaper, belts...
I guess my thinking is...go ahead and get this one together and run it for now...upgrade later.

I know where you are coming from and, I agree....just don't know if I can justify the extra $$$ for a case right now...
I've had a factory nodular case with 31 spline Mosers in the car since '98...been very lucky, I know. Well over 1000 passes...
I'm just trying to "cheap-out" for a season...and still have a warm and cozy feeling about it...lol.

you could sell the 3.062 and buy the 3.25 and get the 35 splined.... I love my Mosier stuff

One other option would be to keep the 3.062 and get a set of 33 spline axles and matching spool. Moser and Strange both make 9" stuff in 33 spline. I ran 33 spline for years in my door car. Really beefy.
Re: 9" 3.062 vs. 3.250-Minor Dilemma-Opinions Wanted
like Daved said , 33 spline with the 3.062 case. imo. mark williams only for 35's with that case, how they do it is not the same as other companys .

Tree,
Go with 33 spline that's what I got I know your car is not heavier than mine.

I have run 33 and 35 splined never seen a bit of difference but with my newer setup I have 35's in it now......

I know that is right...but...I think I might be making just a "touch" more steam in the hole....BIGDOG466 wrote:Tree,

I'll need to pick the boys at Mosers' brains on that one...just kinda wanted to overkill it a little...

I've had pretty good luck with my 31 splines...but I know I'm pushing it...that is why I had the 35's on my mind...the Coug wrote:I have run 33 and 35 splined never seen a bit of difference but with my newer setup I have 35's in it now......

If you're going to upgrade in the future, consider the 3.810" bore through -bolt case. Then you can go 40 spline axles with no worries. That's what I've got for my junk. Doesn't cost that much to do it right the first time. And, if I recall, Moser gets the same money for their axles regardless of spline count. Just a thought...

And I have considered this as well....It just seem that this time around...everything I touch, I think well, better go ahead and go through this....Nevs wrote:If you're going to upgrade in the future, consider the 3.810" bore through -bolt case. Well, I bought the Richmond spool, and had Moser make the new 35-spline axles with the Richmond spline, star-cut flanges and, 5/8" studs. They are quite a bit beefier than the 31's I had in her before. I think this combo will live for a while. Probably will still get a 3.250 case on down the road and keep this one for a back-up/gear swap case for testing. Thanks for the replies guys.

I remember a guy in Lubbock that cheaped out and the broken axles cost him his brand new car.....
I know another guy in Amarillo that cheaped out and cost him the rest of his life, in a wheel chair being a paraplegic. cuz they wanted to save a few bucks................ so the point is do it right or stop till you can do it right..... you could regret it...... Glad you went with the bigger axles

Good question...They actually run all the way through the spool out to the end. I researched it a little before I pulled the trigger on it and, I'm glad I did. I talked to someone that had used the Richmond spool before and, they didn't tell Moser about the splines....they had to send the axles back to have the splines made longer.DanH wrote:where is the splines located on the Richmond 35 spline spool ? inboard - like OEM or out at the end of spool
