Tranny lines
A friend of mine was telling me that he used teflon coated braided lines going to his tranny cooler. Is this necessary or can someone use just regular braided hose or even use steel and then adapt to braided?
Thanks

Re: Tranny lines
Teflon should last longer but I have never heard of people having tranny lines deteriorate. I have just ran rubber lines or regular steel braided lines on every car I own with no problems.

Regular braided line works fine. You can also use rubber hose thats for power steering or fuel.

I've used them all..................the rubber hose with a clamp deal sucks though, was going into the water box one time and before I did I put it on the brake to put some heat in the converter.....................line popped off the cooler and made a hell of a mess............currently using teflon braided stuff.

Re: Tranny lines
I use heavy ole hydraulic line. Of course it is in the car with me so I am overly cautious.

Re: Tranny lines
For the low buck approach common rubber power steering pressure hose is usually safe in a lot of cases for trans lines as long as each joint is double hose clamped & the hard line (or fitting) has some kind of a flair/raised edge making it harder for the hose to slip off.
But I wouldn't use rubber fuel line, it's usually a lot thinner wall & less webbing than power steering hose. And if I remember correctly the rubber compound is different between the two hoses. I have seen rubber fuel line split when used as a trans line, but never seen the power steering stuff fail.
