yes that is what I use in mine. I had read somewhere that you have to adjust the length but when i put mine side by side at too measurements they where identical but that was my experience.

Both the 460 and 351W use a 5/16" oil pump shaft. The 302/289 uses 1/4"

Yes, that's correct. In fact the MSD distributor # 85805 is listed for the 351W, and both it and the 8580 are listed in the catalog as having the same dimensions. Both are 6" from the top of the cap, to the mounting surface flange.
The Windsor steel gear is listed as pn#85852

Re: Will a 351W distributor work in a BBF?
The Windsor and 385 distributor housings are the same size ... the 351M / 400 is slightly shorter although it can be used because the gear is the same as a 385.
Re: Will a 351W distributor work in a BBF?
Guys, I went through a bunch of them, both the Motorcraft Duraspark distributors, and the MSD distributors. My purpose in doing so was to try to find which one a guy could use with the new style TFS tunnel ram, without going to the MSD crank trigger deal.
In general, the shortest Motorcraft Duraspark I found was a stock 429/460 Ford distributor. In the case of MSD distributors, it's reversed. The MSD #8577 listed for the 429/460 is the tallest MSD distributor at 8.75", and probably taller than it needs to be in most all applications.
Getting back to the new style TFS tunnel ram deal, you can use a stock rebuilt 429/460 Motorcraft distributor, with one of my cap adapters that I make, and a Mallory # 221 crab cap, and have clearance under the tunnel ram. If you look at the thread called Keown's Bad-ass Truck and a picture of the engine Bob has put together, you will see the Mallory crab cap deal setting under the TFS tunnel ram.https://www.429-460.com/general-discussion-f5/keown-s-bad-ass-truck-t4005-15.htm
Hope this helps,
Charlie

Once it is installed in a 429 it is a 429 dizzy, then when you put it in a 460,it's a 460 dizzy. I have a 514 dizzy in LiL Tweety

If Charlie is correct then different applications of the Duraspark 385 distributors and different applications of the 351M / 400 Duraspark distributors are different lengths so it is to be the correct length to fit THAT particular factory application.
What it comes down to for the housing length IS - does it clear the manifold and other components being used, anything else is immaterial.
