lexan windows
How much weight could I lose with putting lexan in the windshield and doors? Nuclearcobra has sent his heads to Scotty and I have to keep up! He is 400lbs lighter but with the new cam and head work, plus the stall I think he may pass me and I can't have that!

The door glass is pretty thin on the fox, when I gutted my doors and added alum panels on my 69, along with getting rid of the thicker glass and going 1/8" lexan it was 38#s total.
A hatchback car would be more of a loss, but the whole shootin match would net less than a 100#s I would think. Not a drastic plus for the amount of work, but every little bit adds up.

X2. I tried too put the Maverick on a diet a few years ago. I replaced the windshield/back glass, all side windows w/Lexan. Replaced both front fenders w/fiberglass. Replaced Dash w/Alum. I lost 93lbs. and will never go thru all that work again for so little gain.

But you still have to admit 93 pounds is 93 pounds. Any reduction in weight is better than nothing (or worse, finding out you actually stacked weight back in somewhere else.).

One thing that you can do is look for some aluminum bumpers fron the older fox bodies and replace them steel ones. The Aluminum ones are way lighter!!!!

Re: lexan windows
we just took our bumpers off, used some 3/8" tubing to make a frame so the covers would hold their shape.
The lexan combined with an effort to remove all weight possible is worth it, just not by itself IMO. Kind of like going on a diet to loose 5 #'s lol
