460 4x4 question
Did the 73-79 4x4 Bronco ever come with a 460 factory?
How about the F100s of that timespan?

Nope. Only F250 and F350, although it is a easy swap on a F150.

Re: 460 4x4 question
Ok. Someone I know has a 76 4x4 Bronco with a 460 and said it was factory. Just wondered if it was true or not.
Same friend wants to put headers on his 1971 F100 4x4 with a 460. But doesnt want to spend the money on the swap headers or build ones.
I dont think he has a choice but to spend a bit.

Re: 460 4x4 question
Definately not factory in the 76 Bronco, because they barely fit with major surgery on the sides. The early Bronco's were strictly Windsor and 289/302.

Re: 460 4x4 question
Frank Merkl said in a different thread that he personally worked on a factory 460 F150 4x4 at a dealership in the late 70's. I believe it was possible, just have never seen one or documentation that Ford did it. If Frank says they made em I'm believing it.

Re: 460 4x4 question
I'm with ya on the Bronco's. A little creativity and one goes in quite easily with factory parts, but I doubt FoMoCo ever actually sold one to the public. Heck I've seen a Bronco with a 428CJ motor in it, and one with a 4v Cleveland. I'm guessing that an MEL engine could be installed in a truck or Bronco if a guy wanted to.73f100shortbox557SCJ wrote:Im talkin bout the broncs' schmitty if you were referin to my post. lol sorry if you arent.

Re: 460 4x4 question
i have only seen 1 in person
and if i rember right
on the bronco build on tv trucks
they had a 78-79 bronco with a 460
and i thought tey said it was the motor that came out of it?
i could be wrong but the 1 i saw in person
looked factory it was about as rusty as the rest of the truck also
but maybe it was a swap from a long time ago and some one took alot of time to make it look factory

Re: 460 4x4 question
The headers aren't that bad if you can find some used ones. I sold a set of Hedman Hustlers for a couple hundred, but he will have to do something about the alternator mounting bracket, or make one himself.

Re: 460 4x4 question
There were no 460's in any four wheel drive Ford truck in the 70's. A 400 was the biggest engine the factory would put in. I ordered a new '79 F150 4 X 4 and I still have it and the brochure for the '79 trucks. There were several things I tried ordering for my truck, and a 460 was one of them. The dealer and the factory rep said no way. Ford didn't start putting them in until the 80's. This was the decision for all the trucks (150-350) and the Bronco.
