Forged Crank (3.850)
Is any company making Forged 460 cranks? If not, has anyone ever took one of the forged 429 cranks and made a 3.850 stroke, or is that even a possibility?
Thanks

Its possible to make a 429 steel crank into one, if you go to a BBC 2.2 journal size.

Are these cranks hard to find and what is the largest stroke that can be ground out of them? 4.125 or 4.150?

They are not real common, but not impossible to find either. With a chevy journal you can probably get around 3.9-4.0 stroke out of one. If your looking for a 4.15 is probably cheaper and easier to just get a SCAT or similar off shore one.

Yes it can be done and is done a lot in truck pull setups and small CID race engines. You need to find a 429 out of a F600-700 truck. The snout will also have to be redone.

can be done , got one thats done , the most stoke that can be done is 3.880 and lower to get a certain big bore short stroke for cube limit.

Re: Forged Crank (3.850)
I run a 4.5 bore, and I want to run a small, but larger stroke than a 3.850 but it needs to be an OEM crank. I will spin it pretty hard. I am going to change my career, no more mud.
Blake,
Finally tried out the shift pattern that we discussed, it worked real good, it felt like it hooked up better, that's a lot better. Thanks for the heads up. Took first place Saturday.

If a 3.880 is the largest stroke, then going past 3.850 would not be worth the cost of the custom pistons. IMO
Thanks

Re: Forged Crank (3.850)
why would custom pistons be needed ? OTS pistons are easy to get. know Probe got them .deerhunter3814 wrote:DanH wrote:can be done , got one thats done , the most stoke that can be done is 3.880 and lower to get a certain big bore short stroke for cube limit.

I was just assuming that it would be a custom deal, if it is not then this might be an option for next year. Thanks for the info. Now to start looking for a crank.

Re: Forged Crank (3.850)
I've got one,it's in a kit deal from Engine systems a few yrs. back. I don't know the exact stroke of the crank.(was suppose to be a 472 C.I) it has Crower 6.7 Billet rods and .030 Venolia Domes. If anyone needs it, let me know. I have new rings,M/R bearings and the crank is fresh

472, on what bore? We might figure it that way.
I was hoping the 429 crank would go at least 4.0.
If you can figure out the stroke, please let me know.
Thanks

Sounds like a 3.9 stroke 3.9X4.39 comes in right at 472.
