Need some opinions/ Long
Over the winter I had to rebuild my 508 to 514 ci. I put in domed pistons now have a 14.5 to 1 comp up from 12 to 1. More radical roller cam.Ported P-51 heads by Charlie. This engine was in my Torino that weighed 4300 with me in it. Well I took the whole drivetrain and installed it in a car that is 850 pds lighter than what I had.
The best the Torino ran was a 10.299 at 131. Well the best I could get out of the new car last night was a 10.22 at 128 mph. I am puzzled like WTF.
I used the same 1050 dominator as before, different dist, 28 deg. total adv in by 2500 rpm. This car is running a Holley black pump with a 5/8 line to the reg. I did notice it has only one 5/8 line to the pump. The fuel pressure gage is not visible because its on the regulator. That is one thing I am changing this week .
This guy ran a 534 ci with some Blue Thunder Heads and all he ran was 10.20s. I questioned him about the fuel pump size and he said it was fine. But I am thinking that is my problem.
I also have a 1150 Quick Fuel carb here ready to bolt on. Need some opinions and suggestions guys.
Thanks Tore

Re: Need some opinions/ Long
The Torino had 4.11s with 28.8 tall tires and the new car has 32" tall tires with 4.30s. ALso the single line to the pump is a 5/8 single line. Its one of those fuel lines that looks like a garden hose.

Leaving on the brake it was stalling at 5k, its a C-6 and the trap rpm I cant really say I was a little uneasy in the car it was a new ride and is taking a little bit to get used to.
In the Torino it would go thru the traps at 6700.

What's the 60 ft?
I'm running the same pump with 1/2" lines. Still untouched heads, 12:1, and a much smaller cam. I think your old cam was larger than mine. Is it a dog out of the hole? What's the 60ft? What pump where you running in the Torino?

The 60fts were in the low 1.4s and I was running a Holley Volumax Pump I think it a 180. Car seems to pull strong all the way down the track.

Re: Need some opinions/ Long
Tore, You have something other than fuel causing the problem IMO. The 466 I built for Mike(GoinPostal) is only 12.1. It has a 110gph Holley Blue. It weighs more than your new ride and went 10.14 off the Trailer w/no tuning. And the p51's are out of the Box. Are you sure the Octane is high enough for the compression. You should have no less than 112 octane. Can you post a time slip so we can study it. It might be blowing through the converter.

Re: Need some opinions/ Long
I am running 112 octane, I just got the convertor back from Broader Perf. and told him of the increased HP and Jay said I should be fine with it. I will have to get the slips later and try to get them up.

Tore,W/c6 and a car that light, your 60' should be in the mid 1.30 range. Does the car get the rpm's quick or does it seem flat?I set Mike's timing at 30 total so you should be in the ball park at 28.

New Car
Tore ,
This may sound like a dumb question/idea but did you weigh the new car to get the 850 lbs less or did the guy selling it ? Maybe a trip to the weigh scale will help some ?

The car acelerates real quick. But looking at the time slips its the same 60 fts that the torino did. I weighed the car at the track thats how I knew the car was lighter.

Re: Need some opinions/ Long
Well it aint the fuel pump. I have a new convertor coming this week. I ran Friday night and it ran 10.09 130.?? the best. My 60 ft sucks . 1.43 using the brake. I got a converter from Lenny at Ultimate Converters. He feels I am driving thru the old one in the Torino. So I am pulling the engine and Tranny tomorrow and should have it back to gether by Saturday.
I also swapped out the ignition box no difference but my coil took a dump last week. Everytime I turn around something isnt right on the car. Should have just kept driving the Blue Torino would have been money ahead and alot less frustration. I think Rick Brown is in the same boat as me by the email I got from him yesterday. Misery loves company come on in.

Rick and Tore,
I here you been going thru crazy shit with my car also.It wouldn't start first of May tested pick up coil showed fine.l changed coil started up,sat for a few weeks wouldn't start again tested MSD box didn't test like it should have MSD tech said change coil.I put the same coil on i took off before and thought was bad fired right up.June 12 th wouldn't start again changed back to the other coil fired up.Yesterday wouldn't start again with either coil, borrowed a good MSD box off a buddy still nothing.I checked pick up coil with ohm meter nothing,Auto Zone had a new pick up coil checked it just to be safe.Put it in today fired up after a few set backs last night, broke the collar on the bottom of the distributor didn't have another one luckily my cousin had one.

punp
I ran one of the blackpumps on my old car with a 514. It ran mid 9's with no problem I eeven sprayed it a few times and ran low 9's.I think the punp should be fine as long as it is in good working order.
