Starter Woe's for Tweety
The stock (Big) Ford starter took a dump after the first few starts . So I ordered (2) new ones from dbelectric(the ebay ones).Well, I had to do some grinding on the end snout before it would even bolt up. Then when I hit the start switch, the cog wont engage the flywheel. It looks like the starter is in towards the engine side to far ,it won't catch the flywheel teeth. I put another stock starter I had on it,but it don't have enough grunt to get the job done when the engine is warm. I've been bustin my A$$ on this thing trying to be able to test before next week. Has anyone else ran into any of this w/these dbelec. mini starters?

Is that the same as a Ford gear reduction starter?
I used to run a Ford gear reduction starter from O'reilly. It was a little close to the flywheel so I slotted the lower bolt hole. The nice thing about that style is that since the gear is not centered between the bolts, slotting one hole will let you rotate it away from the wheel. I don't know what case you are using but I've heard the JW powerglide bell housings aren't very close. I've had two friends use them and they both had issues with starter alignment.

My starter woes were the DB was too FAR From the flexplate. Turns out my Scat flexplate was too small (!!) Changed to a generic Pioneer plate, been perfect.

I like the Ford truck starter much better than those denso type gear reduction starters and I've ran both.
