Re: Carburetor fuel line problems
Sorry, I just read that after the post. But, you wouldn't of had to buy a new bowl if the lines wouldn't have leaked. Plus if your on a budget (let summit know that you are even if you aren't) then they should understand why you bought the other ones. Let them know that you just want to get the dang thing done but cant because of all of this. They refunded our money for a set of headers (the first one's out of three on the cougar) because they were really bad and we had to personally modify them. What your going through is total BS, I don't get whats wrong with it.OldRedFord wrote:The fuel bowl is a different color because it was cheaper. The fuel bowls are not my problem. The flare fittings are.

Re: Carburetor fuel line problems
Man I feel your pain.It sounds to me like the fittings that go into the bowls are bad. Maybe the flares are made wrong or defective tooling was used during manufacturing.I cant see those flares being 37 degree because usually hard line is 45degree flare, just a thought. I would replace those fittings. How long ago was the carb bought? I would just box that shit up and send it back for a refund or credit and get another carb.
And DONT use teflon on flare fittings if it don't seal something is wrong.
Just some thing to add. Sometimes if a flare doesnt seat it helps most of the time to put it in a flaring tool and give it a crank or so to remake the flare so to speak.I learned this fom a mechanic buddy of mine when we made some brake lines.

X2 try to put a little pressure on the flare, it might be a little warped and have high/low spots.mustang68mustangs1 wrote:Man I feel your pain.It sounds to me like the fittings that go into the bowls are bad. Re: Carburetor fuel line problems
Keep in mind, SAE is 45* flare
AN & JIC are 37* flare
But AN are held to a much tighter thread tolerance (better quality, basically)
So, SAE is not technically compatible with AN/JIC.

I went down to Summit and got those fittings. No leaks this time. Got the motor broken in.

Sweet! At least its all over. Its still horse $#!t that you had to go through all of that. You might want to paint the fuel bowls to match or something, the dichromate is more $$$ because its the old school look and many people like that. I do to on some motors but not mine. I hope everything went fine with the break in.
