Am I missing something here?

Tried to put my spool together tonight and it doesn't fit just right. It is a 31 spline for a 9" but it is about 3/4 of an inch wider. Am I missing something or is this just the wrong spool. The diff. is the one I took out. [url=]]][img]

I do beleave you have the wrong spool looks alittle to wide are you sure you have a 9" rear and not a 8" if it was a 8" that might the reason or they just gave you the wrong spool

Looks like an 8 inch...to me and. what's with the washers on the ring gear bolts???

This is a Currie 9" carrier. It is the sportsman 9+ and a Strange custom housing, so I know it is a 9 inch. Or at least everything I have bought for it I ordered for nine inch. I put the hardened washers under the bolts because the bolts were bottoming out and I wanted to mock it up. I am waiting on an email from the seller. I'm thinking it got switched somehow. Also does anyone recognize the limited slip diff. It was in a Auburn Pro box but it looks like a Currie to me.

I doubt that carrier is an 8" because there isn't a flat section of the gasket surface at the top & bottom, it's curved top & bottom like a 9" is.

At first I was going to say maybe the spool is really a Dana 60 unit. But that can't be cuz how would the 9" ring gear bolt up. Plus if it was a Dana it would have 35 splines & not 31. If in fact the spool does have 31 splines, I would think it has to be either a 9" or an 8.8 spool.

The bolts bottoming out is another red flag that some thing is off somewhere. Does the spool have any numbers on it?

The limited slip in the pictures looks all most exactly like what is said to be an Auburn unit in my Moser catalog.

The spool has no numbers on it. The box it came in says it is 9" 31 spline but there isn't a number no where. I'm just glad that I don't have a race for another month. Just a PITA but it is a race car and I'm used to it.

Man I know that is the wrong Spool, it is way to long just from seeing it..... Where did you get it and what brand it is?

I have a spool if you need it.

It looks like when they made it they put the ring gear offset to the right about 1/2".

Company I bought it from says that the spool is for the larger cases and I can send it back no problem. Just out shipping.

But then I haven't messed with any of the monster "big bore" 3.812 bearing Mark Williams or Strange Ultra cases yet, maybe the monster ultra cases do take a longer spool, I don't know.

But that's still an inconsistency because even if the monster big bore cases do take a longer spool, why would anyone go to the trouble of making a spool for tiny 31 spline axles to use in an ultra high HP big bearing case? Something still don't make sense.

I agree, why would anyone go to the expense of a larger case and then use a 31 spline spool? You need to know the rest of the story, something doesn't add up.

Melvin its not a 8'' i have two of them here, your right you have a 9'' case but the spool is not for a 9'' regular case.
