Dyno Question
I have never had one of my engines on the dyno but plan to take the new 598 to the dyno room. I have heard various stories through the years that dyno pulls are very hard on engines. I have heard that one dyno pull is like 3-4 (or fill in the blank) standard passes. Anyone know? If it truly is that hard on the motor I will only make a few pulls. Thanks

Re: Dyno Question
The dyno is a better envirement than on the track.....I heard all that bs years ago and after seeing engines with dozens of dyno pull I have not seen anything to support those rumors.

Re: Dyno Question
It took 5 pulls on mine to get it tuned up. Time for a pull isn't that long, less than a fast trip down a drag strip.

Re: Dyno Question
We made 7 pulls on mine...could have made 7 more.
It is some of the best money you can spend.

Re: Dyno Question
Don't get too shy about the number of pulls....it may be the 3rd pull before the rings are completely seated. The power can go up the 1st few pulls w/o any changes .
Re: Dyno Question
This winter I hope to get mine tuned in

A LOT has to do with the dyno "DRIVER" and how well he opperates it.
If done with conscienciousness, it is not anywhere near the wear and tear of a track run.
Re: Dyno Question
all i know is when i came up to the bash Randy and Mike had i believe a chrysler engine on the dyno and it sure did sound like it loaded down that engine ....... but once it got up on rpm's it ran like a scalded dog
it was a cool experince to see an engine on the dyno, especially having someone like Randy's expertise there and listening to the guru's talk about jetting, carb's, spacer's etc..... your a smart cookie Randy
but i would like to see a BBF on one of those

That was a pump gas small block iron headed "Magnum" Chrysler, (a stroker 318 stroked to 361 cubic inches), two plane intake with 4150 carb. (We tried 3 carbs and 4 different spacers with each).
We were pulling it all the way down to 2,400 RPM like an EMC engine and running it up to 6,600 RPM. We made 23 dyno runs that day to find out what it probably needed to be better.
It made 462 pounds of torque and 499 horsepower, (just couldn't get that 500 number). I'm puttin' in bigger intake valves and a different hydraulic flat tappet camshaft and I'll take it down there and try it again, lol.
Tendencies you can learn are not particularly brand oriented ... !
Re: Dyno Question
if it cant stand a dyno it cant stand the track.
