460 powered RV - Gas Mileage and power improvement
Tracy and I are looking into Class C RV's. Ran across one that has a Banks Power system and he claims it improved MPG and power.
So when we get an RV, it will most likey be powered by a 460. What can I do to duplicate the banks power systems deal? K&N Air Filter and open up the exhaust?
Thanks

Damon ,mine gets 6 mpg pulling the trailer down hill But I love the old thing. It's great when you get there! And don't even try pulling without the tote....I did it for a few years ,but it's dangerous as hell!! About like driving a 56 Tbird sideways

How's the 460 for power Dan, say pulling a 26'-28' tag?

Dads got the banks stuff on his, headers / exhaust, air intake and a tune. Installed by the previous owner and from my understanding it's a big improvement.

My uncle has a small C and it gets a solid 8 mpg no matter what you are doing so that is right in line with Dan-o's I figure. IMHO I couldn't really see any mileage improvement with anything beside higher gears or overdrive but added power would be noticeable. I am not sure what years you are looking at Damon but I have found with every 460 I ever owned when you rev them up to 3k or better on the highway the mileage goes down. I am sure a C would probably have 4.33:1 gears in it and pulling a trailer you probably won't be able to use overdrive so you are going to be screaming.

Believe it or not Steve ,this thing actually has as much or more power than my 7.3 powerstroke ,but it has 11' behind the axles to the hitch.Makes for a fun towing experience pulling the enclosed without the trailer toad ! I don't like to go over 65mph with it, so i just leave earlier..Nevs wrote:56Tbird wrote:Damon ,mine gets 6 mpg pulling the trailer down hill But I love the old thing. It's great when you get there! Re: 460 powered RV - Gas Mileage and power improvement
Will most definitely be getting a trailer toad or tow buddy, whatever you call it.
One of the RV's I was looking at (It's sold now) has the Banks Power System. Before he had it installed (1990 model with 460 and like 29'). He got 8 to 8.5mph towing his trailer and 10 to 10.5 with no trailer. After the Banks he got 10 to 10.5 towing his trailer and 12 to 12.5 without a trailer.
I'm just wondering if we could replicate that deal with headers, a K&N filter or something like that and then the chip deal...
Here's an example of what we are looking for, I called about it this morning.

Would lover to find a deal like what Randy and Becca got
