Help me ID this Quick Fuel carb
Guys,
My friend's car has a QFT carb on it and I need to ID it so we know what size it is and buy a rebuild kit. The only numbers I see on it are on the top and they are
12R-8795B
L80186
3397
It's got the red metering blocks and the red tipped boosters. The bowls look to be the Holley looking stuff with the QFT stickers on it. So it looks to be a few years old at least.
Any idea what it is?

Re: Help me ID this Quick Fuel carb
A Holley 80186 is a 750 dominator. I take it that this is a pretty early version of the quickfuel peices when they were converting regular holleys instead of thier own design. In my opinion the 750 dominator is merely a show peice, yeah I got a dominator but it really is only a glorified 750.

I found the 750 info as well. Think it flows anymore than 750? Track time and rpm will tell...

I don't ever recall seeing a 750 Dominator in any Quick Fuel Catalog?

All I could find. Wont help one bit, but I'll look some more.

EDIT- If it was one of the holley carbs converted to a QF carb then they wouldn't be making it anymore, so you wont be able to find it in a store's stock list. Try contacting QF and see if they can help you.

I'll have to look at it again. It definitely has the gold main body and bowls. QFT stickers ar eon the bowls and are fairly worn. Has the red tipped boosters and red metering blocks.
Wonder if it was a conversion they did? Are there any date codes on these things?
I'll call QFT as well.

Re: Help me ID this Quick Fuel carb
I called QFT. The 750 and 1050 carbs share the same main body, base plate, throttle blades, etc... It's simply the booster that makes them different. The larger OD booster is the 750. It has a sort of bell shape to it. The small OD straight booster is the 1050.
I need to check the car again but I think it's a 750. QFt said it'd be ~$150 for them to change the boosters and make a 750 into a 1050.

For $150, I think I'd let them do it.

Definitely. We'll run it like it is though just to get a baseline...

Just seen this thread...can't add much at this point but to say that sending it to the guys at QFT to update is the way to go...first rate service with them over the years!

Re: Help me ID this Quick Fuel carb
Does it take a standard Dominator rebuild kit? Or does QFT have a specific one with upgraded parts? The local speed shop has the dommy kit, but don't know if it will work...

John,
Not knowing something is permissible,,,,,,,,but also it might be a pretty good indicator that it would be better to send it in and get it rebuilt by Quick Fuel themselves, in order to make sure you have the gaskets and everything correct.
Sorta' like me and my lack of knowledge in regards to air conditioning. I have two central air units here at the house, and when something goes wrong, I just call the same A/C repairman that I've used for the past 20 years.

Re: Help me ID this Quick Fuel carb
If I remember correctly it has 8 total. 4 near the front vent tube and 4 near the rear tube.
I'm with ya Uncle Charlie. Carb seems fine except for the leaking bowls. I think the flat spot is it actually leaking and causing it to be rich... If you can feather it through the flat spot it turns on real good. it loads up at idle too. I leaned out the idle mixture and it helped.
I'll call QFT and see how much it will be.
