Re: QUICK FUEL CARB ?
I've heard of the guys having some issues with the Q leaving the sand in the ex ports and such, even finding it in the drums etc. maybe post a pic? pop a bowl off? If its just in the booster man a little WD40 fog goes a long way, even in a gas application.

Re: QUICK FUEL CARB ?
In a way it looks like the fuel washed the crap away, so it very well may be from the sea spray as lem said.
I have never seen fuel do that.

Re: QUICK FUEL CARB ?
my alky cabs never look like that, they get a good fog down though. Alky will leave a powder like residue if its allowed to dry, it could be the fuel you last ran???? pop the bowl off, 1/4" nutdriver, take 45 seconds. What do the intake ports look like?

Re: QUICK FUEL CARB ?
I'm really thinking that the VP Q-16 which is an oxgenated fuel, is leaving a whiteish deposit in the bowls and needles and seats. I have a nice new pair of QF 1250s that I loaned out and they had Q-16 run in them, and then they laid around for 4 months before they were disassembled and we saw that deposit, kinda' looks like and feels like baking soda.
Nick the rust at the throttle blades in yours, I suspect is coming from condensation.
Some NHRA Stock Eliminator racers are pretty serious about oiling their engines down when they are done for the weekend. The proceedure is to shut off the fuel at the carb, run the engine until the bowl is empty, as the engine is starting to starve out and shut down, then spray a heavy dose of WD 40 or CRC down the carb until it stops, then remove the spark plugs and spray WD 40 or CRC down into each cylinder, then install an old set of warm-up plugs for the next time when it's started up. Really it's a good idea.
Take care,
Charlie

Re: QUICK FUEL CARB ?
Does it wipe clean or does it wipe off and leave the anodized aluminum with pits?
Looks like plain old corrosion to me... But then again I am on the coast and have never had a carb look like that. But my small block did have the gritty exhaust ports from running VP C-12.

Re: QUICK FUEL CARB ?
So is there a way to fix that problem? Or at least repair the damage that was done? I have an 850dp that is filled with similar looking deposits. Dave F. came to my house to help me get my motor ready a while back and saw the carb, and when we opened it up the primary bowl and metering block was eaten up with it. Luckily he had a new 850 that I bought off him and I ended up sticking the corroded carb back on the shelf as a parts carb.
