Looks like plain old corrosion to me... But then again I am on the coast and have never had a carb look like that. But my small block did have the gritty exhaust ports from running VP C-12.
so i took some wd-40 and clean one up and there is a slight pitting in the machined marks ..........

Re: QUICK FUEL CARB ?
I stored my car in the trailer over the winter one year and checked on it from time to time and as it got colder frost developed on my valve covers and headers when the frost went away it left deposits like that. I just polished it off with mothers, but there was some permanent pitting. Im assuming that since your so far south frost is rarely an issue, but condensation would likely oxidize the same. I always put my carb in a sealed box and put it on the shelf in the winter so come spring time there isnt any drama.
Re: QUICK FUEL CARB ?
i just wonder why my prosystems carb never did that ???

Re: QUICK FUEL CARB ?
Its got to be moisture from condensation, seems the last outing you were in some cool air.
WD40 fog after race.
For the winter I like to pull my carb off, clean it out with some brakeclean and WD40 the snot out of it, seal in a bag, put it in a box.

Re: QUICK FUEL CARB ?
I agree with Jon Nick, I'd be for pullin the bowls off, maybe even pull the carb apart and give it a good cleaning... It does look like it's been there awhile, I'd bet it was caused from the high humidity and salty air from Florida...
X2 on pullin' the carb off during the off season for a hose down and WD-40 fog...

The carb did not do 'it' . Something in the air or fuel .bruno wrote:i just wonder why my prosystems carb never did that ???

X2, the brand of carb has nothing to do with "it"!

pretty or nasty ?dfree383 wrote:I'm thinking its the chemicals in the "hot" fuel you've been running, stuffs pretty nasty.....
Question is.......what does the top of the butterflies look like ? If/when they are relatively cool looking....gotta think that it's something going on when the engine is not running .

Re: QUICK FUEL CARB ?
Finally had a chance to read this thread.
My QF carb had the same thing happen to it... But I run VP C-12.
I'm almost positive it's corrosion/ rust from condensation after the car has been run IN COOLER weather...
I say this, because I also found condensation in the valve covers when checking the valves..
Maybe...Just Maybe ???

Well....it's happening when the throttle is closed . When the engine is at W.O.T. the fuel is seeing both sides of the butterflies ...........case closed.
Re: QUICK FUEL CARB ?
Motor warm, carb cool / cold ( especially when using phenolc carb spacer) car put into a cool/cold trailer on a cool / cold night. Yup..sounds like condensation to me..

Re: QUICK FUEL CARB ?
yep, def condensation.....prolly mixing with the fuel residue and making a mess.
Alky guys are already fighting moisture from the get go, so after race procedures are already in place.
Fog with WD40, pull the plugs and breathers, prop the throttle open if need be.

Re: QUICK FUEL CARB ?
As a long time monster fuel dealer and a racer that has alot of experience with the Q16 I have never seen either fuel do that. I have seen carbs that have seen moisture or severe weather changes appear that way. Charlie if you are talking about the carbs that I used I never ran your metering blocks or float bowls. I just used the main body for testing. So any residue in the bowl would have been from something else. Nick if you need anything for your carb give me a call and I can help.
