Wheelstand started at 600ft mark
I had to share this. My guess is that because he let off the pedal the turbo pushed a bunch into the cylinders that wasn't getting burned, so then it burned up the extra fuel, leaned out, and boooom! Kick in the pants!

Re: Wheelstand started at 600ft mark
At that point in time the boost controller probably has the wastegates locked up. When the suspension unloaded/reloaded it stood it up because it hit the suspension with a LOT of horsepower because there was not cushion with the boost controller. I doubt it went lean.
Our worst wheel stands come about the 330 to 400 ft mark. We are working on that right now(changing the exhaust routing, no stupid bull horns).

So it overloaded with boost in sync with the suspension rebounding is what your saying? Causing it to shoot the wheels up off the ground? I don't have experience with boost so forgive me for that one.

YEP. hit the wheelie bars is what unloaded the suspension. It is very hard to pedal a boosted ride if it makes a lot of horsepower

Re: Wheelstand started at 600ft mark
I knew that the cause of the back wheels leaving the ground was because it hit the wheelie bars hard. But I just read something about how a wastegate regulates boost and now I know why it pulled the front up. I can see where pedaling could really be difficult with the turbo's continuing to feed the engine regardless of throttle position once you get going. One thing I've noticed with a lot of turbo cars is that the exhaust will turn black like its running super rich. It looks like they dropped a cummins in their car and decided to race it (sometimes).whatbumper wrote:bb429power wrote:So it overloaded with boost in sync with the suspension rebounding is what your saying? That's another perfect example that after a pass goes to shit and you lift, you never get back in the throttle trying to improve what's left of the run. Only reason to even think about jabbing the throttle after an aborted pass is if your trying to straighten out & save a crooked/sideways car from the wall.
It sounded to me like it either spun/shook the tires early cuz it really zinged the RPM's at about 12-13 sec. mark, then he lifted at the 13-14 sec. mark. Both events shifted the car's weight forward. Then the weight shifted back again hard when he got back in the throttle, shifting weight & boost power made easy work causing the powerstands. The top end speed also helped the second bigger powerstand's "hang time" cuz of all the air getting under the nose of the car at speed. He's lucky he had wheelie bars on that second bigger powerstand, without them the liftoff could have looked like an F-16 climb.

I'll look for this one video I saw. A guy BEARLY saved his car from hitting the wall then he stabbed the throttle at the very worst possible time and rammed it into the wall.
EDIT- I can't find it, it was a newer mustang.

Hey, thats one of my local tracks.
We had a racer killed at that same track trying to make a full pass after the car got out of shape.

Sad to hear that. Sometimes you can get back on the throttle but come on, not WOT. You've already lost time and if you got messed up that bad then it isn't worth it. Just glide and be glad it wasn't worse. Too bad he didn't.

Re: Wheelstand started at 600ft mark
We don't ever get back into it unless we are in danger and then we have the boost override on the AMS-1000 wired to a button on the steering wheel to open the wastegates so it doesn't do what is in the picture.
We got laughed out a few weekends ago because a car in the other lane(Outlaw 10.5 car) got out front and was coming over in our lane so Josh(the driver) pulled the chute to avoid impact, changed lanes and floored it(with the boost override button pushed) to get around him. The guy lost his car and we didn't qualify but we drove our car back into the trailer.

Right, there's always going to be another event. Lose the event or lose your ride, I would much rather be able to drive it back to the pits than win the even, any day. You made a smart choice there.whatbumper wrote:We don't ever get back into it unless we are in danger and then we have the boost override on the AMS-1000 wired to a button on the steering wheel to open the wastegates so it doesn't do what is in the picture.

Re: Wheelstand started at 600ft mark
Look at this crash that was linked to the video. The car seems to backfire and start spinning the tires at the same time. Nitrous backfire?

Nope.. Remember the time delay with sound versus seeing the backfire - the car simply spun the tires & over-revved when you see the flash. It happened fast.. dunno if he just didn't lift soon enough to save it
