sorry to see that I know how it feels to turn a pretty good piece into a pile of scrap.

Re: My pics of engine
Melvin,
Lem brings up a good point. I'm thinking that black #1 rod journal had been spinning that rod bearing for a long time. Dirt, trash or something was causing it to spin, and then finally it broke the rod. With the quality of parts we have nowadays, we aren't just breaking rods out of the clear blue sky. Something has to happen first. Either the clearances were wrong and you had inadequate oiling, or dirt, or something caused the bearing to spin.
Hope this helps,
Charlie

Sorry Melvin
Man I hate to see pics like this, makes me have to throw up. I've scattered my share over the years and it always hurts. Try and learn from the mistakes and keep getting better. Good luck with the new build.

Re: My pics of engine
Wow It sure is messed up.
We had a stock car lose a rod bearing and take out the rod a couple years ago.
The crank looked exactly like yours does.
Melvin how bad is the head damage? It looks like you had some valve/piston contact on #5-8 cylinders.
Hopefully it's just some bent valves.
Glad to see you got a new block. Man you aren't messing around this time around.
So are you doing a stroker build this time?

Saw that too......wouldn't think it'd be that bad with the stock stroke. Tune up may have been off.richter69 wrote:some cap walk goin' on there as well.
