My new 528 combo
I am stepping up my game this year. I was originally going to try to make 900hp with my 523 combo but after some research and plenty of discussions with my engine builder we decided to sell off most of the old combo and step up to an A460 head. So here is the build we are doing right now.
D1VE A2B block .060" with splayed 4 bolt main caps added and machined for screw in freeze plugs
4.300" Scat 4340 forged crank
6.8 Scat 4340 H-beam rods with ARP 2000 rod bolt upgrade
Used but in excelent condition Ross .060" over +10cc domed pistons from Dave Freelander
Used but ported and rebuilt Ford Racing A460 heads with 2.35/1.88 valves (Rich will be doing more porting before the heads go on my engine)
Used 2nd generation TFS tunnel ram (this will be recieving a full treatment as well) intake bought used from Rick aka 557 Mazda
2 8896 Holley 1050 carbs
Engine will be 14:1 compression and run on 114 octane fuel (were considering Q16 but not doing that at this point). Rich Wilhelm from Circle R Racing is building the engine and we are hoping to make 1000+hp@8000rpm's. Hoping this combo will run 8.20-8.30's in the quarter when we lean on it.
I will not be posting pics of portwork done to the heads and intake or cam specs as that is propiety information but if Rich would like to post any additional info I have no problem with that.

3250 with me in it maybe a little less. It would be the cat's ass if I can get under 3000 with me in it. At this point the truck is completely gutted but still has the headliner, door panels, and interior trim with a gutted dash.
I have removed the front fender bracing the heavy ass 60/40 split bench and seat brackets and the insulation and sound deadening material from the floor, I removed every single wire and all the computers... I kept all the plug ins to wire lighting back up and converted the front clip into a one piece deal that only takes four bolts and two pins to removed. The powerbooster is gone and I made an adapter to run manual brakes, the poewrsteering pump... is long gone but still has a power rack which I may swap out for a Mustang manual unit.
The wiring alone not including all the little control boxes... was just over 30 pounds.

25.5 cage gonna see if can get it to hook on leaf springs, may add cal-tracs if needed. It hooks good now but 300+hp increase may change that. If needed may tame it down some with a tighter converter.

Re: My new 528 combo
I just want to clarify 8.20-8.30 is a result from an online calculator for weight and hp, I tried another one and it said 8.40-8.50's so who knows til it is done and in the truck. either way I will not disappointed as I plan on running an 8.60 index class this year.

Re: My new 528 combo
Does the calculator use RWHP, if so my car with 830 RWHP on spray at 3060lbs went 8.78 @153 mph with my last combo. That would be a tick over 1000 FWHP. Some calculators are RWHP and some are FWHP and it makes a big difference ET wise. As a rule of thumb it takes 900-1000 hp to go 8s in a 3k car.
Re: My new 528 combo
The one that said 8.20-8.30 was using TCI's calculator, I got 8.47-8.57 using Wallace Racing's calculator. So far from experience the Wallace Racing calculator has been very accurate and uses FWHP.

Re: My new 528 combo
IMO you need to run under the index to be competitive, and when the hot greasy tracks come around it gets tough to do....unless you can go way under when the conditions are real good.
I foresee Mr Frosty in your future............and some good suspension parts...........

Re: My new 528 combo
Mine had 1003 fly wheel hp and has ran 8.51's @ 156 mph.................. But I think there is more left in it. Still got some 60 foot to get yet.

Some of todays progress
Got the tunnel ram linkage baselined today and got the block tapped for screw in freeze plugs.
Let me tell you, I now understand why alot of people don't run tunnel rams, I had 8 hours into getting the linkage set-up.
Here are some pics from today's work and mock up.

Re: My new 528 combo
The down side is now my MSD 8580 dizzy does not fit, we even tried on the "small" cap and still does not clear. I thought I had read somewhere that the 351 windsor dizzy would work with the small cap and a 460 distributor gear???
