About the only ??? I have on that engine is the cast iron crank. Other than that not a bad motor and it is turn key. Blake had crank failure about that power level with his cast crank.

I wouldn't touch that witha 10 ft pole it has a cast crank in it for that much it should be forged.

Re: how much power is it gonna take to push my 88lx into 9.00-9.50 range
I have a buddy that has a stock block 557 with old B460 heads that has gone 9.0s in a stock suspension car. I think he weighs around 3100. I would say a 520-540 with a good set of the new A-460 heads would get you in the high 8's with no problem.
Re: how much power is it gonna take to push my 88lx into 9.00-9.50 range
i believe Blake's (IDT-572) deal which was a 557 and some tfs streets would run some 8.70's 80's on motor and he is at 2950 lbs

Re: how much power is it gonna take to push my 88lx into 9.00-9.50 range
I'd say 800hp to 875hp will get you in the 9.50 to 9.0 ET range IMO depending on the rest of the combination. I'm guesstimating mine is making about 800 to 825hp depending on the weather and I run in the 9.30 to 9.45 range at 3211#.
IF/When I change my combo again, I'll be going with A460 type heads or max effort P-51's like what's on Kay-Why's ride

Kay-Why's ride I wish somebody would knock his butt out of that tree............. Every time I call him he whispers to me, makes me feel kinda weird and vulnerable.

Re: how much power is it gonna take to push my 88lx into 9.00-9.50 range
Each of those heads will make the power you need, but each is a different piston. I've alway said the A's were the best all around race head out there for different engine sizes, and can make rediculous power when set up properly. The advantage of the P51/SCJ is that they have standard intake/exhaust patterns. The TFS Street is a head to use if you already have a shortblock assembled with good standard valve pistons in it and don't want to trade out for pistons that are cut with a different valve layout. IMHO if I were to start from scratch, I'd do A's and be very happy, but that entails doing an A460 block as well.
