New TNT 7-30-10 results
The car ran the exact same as last time despite drastic changes in suspension and fuel. Two weeks ago it had a 108 pill and 150 lb. springs on non adjustable shocks. It ran 1.42 short time, 6.23 at 109 mph. This week it had 82 pill and 110 lb springs on 12 position adjustable shocks set on 4. It ran 1.42 short time, 6.23 at 110. As you can see it only change the mph by one. Hopefully you can see and hear the video. I think Jon, Charlie, Randy are all right about the converter. Just listen and watch the rear tire and let me know what you think.

Converter is too tight, you can hear the engine being pulled down after the hit.

Its actually too loose, along with other things lol.

I saw the replies in the other thread as well but, I thought it sounded very tight myself. That thing sounds exactly the same as my car....and I Know mine is too tight.

Re: New TNT 7-30-10 results
I cant really tell if the converter is too tight or too loose at the launch. But what I do think I hear is two big RPM drag-down points (on the first video anyway) that really seem to lug the engine down a long time.
The first is just after he gets past the 60 ft clocks, like maybe it was spinning a little & finally hooked, (but I cant be sure cuz there wasn't a shoe polish stripe on the slick). The other drag-down is of course at the gear change. Both times seem to take longer than expected to recover really lugging the engine before it finally recovers & the RPM's start to climb again.
On the initial hit I do see some amount of rear suspension separation trying to plant the sidewalls (the wheelie bars heading south), but I don't know if it was enough. The wheelie bars might be set too low if they are in fact slapping the ground too hard & unloading the slicks.
Swapping parts out (like the converter Charlie suggested) should be a good go/no-go gage of how your components are working. Better video & a stripe on the slick would help too.

DlLLIGAS,
There is polish on the tire. As I go on the brake it's at about 2 o'clock. You will see the tire does not rotate at the hit. It lumbers over one half revolution and then goes. I am 100% sure the tires do NOT spin. Check out the in car video and do not look at the picture, just listen. The ion car sounds different than the outside video. Thanks for your input and willingness to help me.

I don't think the wheelie bars are hitting to hard. In a previous video from the dead back they actually bounce off the ground like there just laying there. However, I have not even thought about those bars. I did chalk them on this run and the center of the chalk was gone all away. My buddy taping said the lines were straight and even at the line for about 18".

Is there a reason they are that low?

Not really
whatbumper wrote:Is there a reason they are that low?
Not really, other than we thought that is where we would start to keep the car from going over too far. That's back when I really thought the thing would do outstanding wheel stands and look spectacular. If I remember the instructions suggested you start at 3" from the ground. My long standing joke after a few passes 3 years ago was the only time the wheelie bars got dirty was when I loaded and unloaded the car from the trailer. I'm certainly not opposed to raising them. I just did not think the car was wheelie worthy. I think I would just shoot myself if all this time the wheelie bars were my problem.

they may not be the problem but it is cheaper to mess with them now and see if it helps than a lot of the other suggestions

I got this from Kerry a while ago
Randy
We could not get a stopping place on my buddies Grand Am and I did not get the converter installed. I don't have anywhere else to do the work and his car was on the lift. He is headed to the ace track now with his dragster. I'll just have to pit tonight. I feel terrible after all the trouble you went through to get it to me. I should get it in before next Friday and be able to test it then. Man this sucks. One of these days I'll have my own place.
Thanks Randy

converter is in
Went over the car with a fine tooth comb tonight. Checked timing, fuel system, alcohol supply lines and valves, borrowed a leak down gauge and reset the Terminator. Everything was good. So...in with the converter from Coug. It was too late (neighbors) to crank it up tonight. Tomorrow after work we'll see where she flashes. Friday night TNT again. The old converter was absolutely a 10" model. I'm beginning to think me running 5.80's is like looking for a pink elephant. I'll update tomorrow night with some flash numbers.

Done!
Everything fell together very well. All is good, no leaks. The converter flashes 4900. I figured it would be more with the 8". Loaded and ready to go. Will post results as fast as I can. I don't drink so someone take a drink for good luck and wish for 5's.

Forgot
I forgot to mention I installed a spray bar under the Terminator to idle around on gas. Hope that works as planned. Did not get to test or set it up yet. Will get her lined out at track.

That still sounds tight IMO. I've always tried to be somewhere between 5200 min, pefer 55-5700.
