road trip. Al, new orleans
heading to alabama friday morning. Going to the space camp. Then off to new orleans for a few days. Then to lafayette. Family vacation. Never been to louisianna. Any suggestions of things not to miss while there. Wife has a pretty good plan from tour books, but always something better.
thanks, dave

The Audobon Zoo is nice. But it's hot. The aquarium is indoors. The National WWII Museum is downtown as well.

Hey, NO FAIR!
You can't drink at 2PM without me!
Hope you guys are having a good time. Don't be shy to just walk into some of the blues clubs on Bourbon St. too. They have some great local musicians down there.
There is also the New Orleans Wax Museum down a few blocks off of Bourbon St. It's pretty neat. Got the French Market too as well as Cafe Du Monde. Go get some beignets and a cafe au lait there!

had breakfast at cafe du mon. We are staying at the place de armes. I threw out an open invite for refreshments. You missed out. Went to the aquarium first day here. Johny po boys has awesome sandwiches. Had something that started with an m. Mulato or something like that. Fam is asleep, might go get a hand grenade. Heard they were good. Headin to oak alley in the morning then to lafayette for the childrens museum. Going to stop by angelle sampey's motorcycle dealership on the way. Have to try mothers debri sandwich next time, or maybe on way out in the morning. Wish I would have known alot of the shops didn't open until tuesday. Going to some town in mississippi famous for civil war. On the border of lou and mis but can't remember what wife said. She's a school teacher. Very big on history

Muffelata's are good eating. Those started at Central Grocery early in the century as a sandwich made from leftover food scraps and evolved into a cultural icon of New Orleans.
If you like the battlefield stuff be sure to check out Shiloh in Tennessee some time. We hiked a ton of those Civil War Battlefields back in the Boy Scouts. Good stuff to see.
