adding 9" housing ends to a fox 8.8 rearend
I am putting an 8.8 in my fox and was thinking about doing the c-clip eliminators, but hear they leak. It seems the 9" ends will cost less and from what I read will not leak on highway driven cars.
What 9" ends have you guys used on your 8.8 rearends and has anybody successfully done this their self? If so did you use a jig or just bolt the 8.8 axle to the 9" end and stick the axle in the rearend so that the gears hold it in place and then weld it in?

Should be done in a jig... Strange makes some nice ends, I've used them before and the are nice. If you haven't done them before I'd suggest you have a shop do them for you and have the tubes welded to the center and straitened at the same time.
You will need to order 9" axles to finish everything off and make sure to get the proper flange spacing for the brakes you are running.
Ths Strange ends will accept your factory 8.8 drum brakes.
IMO if your going to go thru all this work on the 8.8 maybe consider a 9" ??????

I used the strange ends on my 8.8 I am glad I did. Unfortunately the shop that did mine took 1/2 inch more off the left tube than the right side. mini tubs cured the problem with fit for me.

I was under the impression you used the 8.8 axles with the 9" bearing?
I am using the 8.8 because I find it hard to buy a 9" bare rearend housing for $400 and then buy all the brake assembly, when you can buy an 8.8 around here for $100 and I am buying some 31 spline frpp axles from a member and a track lock. With the 8.8 and 9" ends I was under the impression you could use the 8.8 brakes still. I can have the 8.8 bolted undedr the car for what the 9" housing would have costed and I don't think 550 hp is too much for an 8.8.

I never tried using OEM type axels, I've always purchsed new axels for the application, probably best to call strange and talk with them.

Moser said they make a 9" end that will work with the factory brake assembly. Anybody know if you can push a 9" 31 spline bearing on an 8.8 31 spline axle and use with the 9" ends?

The 8.8 brakes will fit on a small bearing 9" and will work on the 8.8 with the correct 9" ends. the 8.8 will live if you do the correct stuff to it, but a 9" is better and has alot more selection of parts for it.

seems like you don't have axles yet . get the (' ends the get the right axles to fit . you can get them made with 5 lugs or 4 . don't wont to do it , just get the other kit . ADD: if you want to narrow it a bit , with the 9" stuff, will be the time to do it , cost no more

Dan you are correct I do not have the axles yet. I just got off the phone with a local fab shop and they said they could narrow a 9" housing and put the brackets on for me for $50 more than welding the 9" ends on. That sounds like a better deal to me I will have the big housing 9" ford rearend out of a truck instead of the fox 8.8.

If you're interested I have a Ford N case and a 31 spline Detroit Locker I'm looking to sell.

Re: adding 9" housing ends to a fox 8.8 rearend
I called about getting the 9" ends welded on my 8.8, and found out it will be easier to get a 9" narrowed. He said he could narrow a 9", weld my brackets off my 8.8 onto the 9", put moser axles in it with all the bearings, and build a driveshaft for $600. That is about the same as I would have put in an 8.8 to get it set up correctly.
I asked him about resplining the 31 spline axles and he said he could do that, but recommended going with the moser axles.
