Nitrous on a stock longblock
My question is this motor I have is supposed to have 30k on it and come out of a lincoln. If I clean up the d3 heads and swap the cam can this motors internals take a 175-200 hit. The tune up will be good so other than that will the motor take it?

Car rods arent as strong as truck/SCJ rods, but as long as the tune is good and you watch the RPM you wil be fine.
Re: Nitrous on a stock longblock
what is the best rpm level for a basically stock 460 car engine?

Re: Nitrous on a stock longblock
I would limit it to 6500 personally, but I'm sure there are others that would push them further.
Re: Nitrous on a stock longblock
im spraying a stock rod & crank with hyper Kb piston i have found that a tune Monty Smith gave work very well and is only a tenth off a larger tune. and with this tune i can use my street plugs and timing plus 93 pump gas. the is 42n 36f 32* total 5psi fp its around 70hp

So what is the death of the rods to many RPM's or to much power?

What are the magic numbers? 6500 rpm's? 650 hp?

I don't know that there is a magic number, probly more af an area where your walking the edge. Your tune will be key. Some people can break a anvil with a rubber mallet, and some can make junk last forever. 6500 is probably where I'd call it quits on a passenger car rod, but like I said I'm sure others have pushed harder.
Re: Nitrous on a stock longblock
I have been 7500 on stock rods albeit truck rods with upgraded bolts and alot of prep work. When I did that motor a cheap aftermarket rod was $700 but now their are decent I-beams for ~$350 which is about what all the work that went into them would run.

I know the common feeling is that truck rods are stronger
but it has been my experience that the rods usually break up towards the small end and not where the two halves are bolted together. I am not a fan of them but I would think that in most instances they will hold 150 hp shot for a while anyway. Quite a few years ago a friend of mine was runing a large galaxy with a 460 with over a 100,000 miles on it and he said it held up fine. I think he was spraying 150 or slightly less.
