Re: Big bore -short stroke
Right now i'm nothing.
Long Drive for me to do anything. Closest Pull is about 6 hours drive, Closest drag race is about 4 or 5.
we got nothing going for us here in the fun department.

That's not an uncommon deal and yes it'll kill a 496 chebbie hands down. Why not do a 4.15 stroke 501 though and use cheaper rods?

Re: Big bore -short stroke
I'd look at the rules for what class you intend to pull or race first, no sense in building something small unless the rules require it.
If your going to use good parts, Aftermarket block, Steel crank, ect. It will cost no more to build a 598 as to build a 490..... Just food for thought.

Re: Big bore -short stroke
Not too long ago I actually did think about making my drag car engine a 3.85 stroke 4.625 bore setup. I did want to make a 605 but a 3.85 stroke would allow some high rpms.

any chance of them organizing and outlawing your combo. This happens enough to be weary of it.

never beat them too bad... You kids need to learn this simple rule... When chevy guys get there butt spanked to hard they change the rules..... It's a simple fact of life for ford guys!!!!
Build a 598 and tell them it's a 501..... only win about 35% and just place well all the time and always comment on the track and the new suspension set up working good, tell the shock as the bomb, then next time it the track prep, keep commenting and bs'n !!!

Re: Big bore -short stroke
Truck pulling rules seem to have no structure, I'm always hearing about the rules being changed to favor the chevy guys who are probably cheating already anyways.

I really wanted this in my car. Truck pullers have lots of rules that favor chevy but i think they could still be bet might take a little work.

Why did the pro stockers and top fuelers run 500 cid engines? Because they wouldn't let them run 800 cid engines.
