Are you referring to the Total Seal rings?

Re: Gapless Rings
I'm running them in my engine, and I know another guy from Iowa with a pulling truck that is using them also. Seem to work just fine.

Re: Gapless Rings
i love them, a little more work to gap but the leak down i get is 5 to 6 percent which is unheard of with conventional rings.

Re: Gapless Rings
the one thing i forgot to mension was the fact that they are harder on cylinder walls, i would not run them in a daily driving motor or a motor you want to get alot of miles from from what i have seen.

I run the gapless top rings in mine. Seems to really help alot with alky. I'll always run them

Re: Gapless Rings
Ace let me ask you something.....
say your Engine turns 7000 rpm. which is 117 rpm per second...
ok now How much compression do you think you will loose?
with the piston going this fast?
so little you will probably never ever see the difference with or without gapless rings...
I have leaked down many engines and some have had some.... move the piston a few degrees and sometimes it goes away, sometimes it leaks... I think Leaking down a ring package is a waste, do a compression test and check it against the other cylinders..and if you feel you can't live without them go for it...
just something to think about
I think if you have a good ring stack package, you don't need gapless...

Re: Gapless Rings
That is a valid argument, Ring frictional drag reduction is more important than leakdown in a higher rpm race engine.

Re: Gapless Rings
when a engine is running the gap on a standard ring is reduced as it heats, thus less leek down while in operation.
some engine builders have gone to using gapless on second ring and not the top
i guess running a gapless ring package of some sort could help reduce oil contamination during warm up and misfires

5-6% leak down is very much heard of with gapped rings.........just gotta warm the engine up before the leak down is done....which is the way a engine is run.
On another note......just because a ring seat is of the Total Seal brand does not mean they are gapless. All of the gapped ring sets that Diamond pistons sells are Total Seal brand.
Re: Gapless Rings
I only get about 2-3% leakdown with my gap style rings........

Re: Gapless Rings
ive never seen 2-3% leakdown on any ring i have used other than the gapless, but the most important differance i have seen is the leakdown difference after the race season is over. The gapless remain low on the leakdown and the regular ring has changed alot. This is most visible on alky from my experience

Re: Gapless Rings
I rekon 2-3% is reserved for HeRo's and shit.........

Re: Gapless Rings
Well I'm no HeRo (lol) but I have had 3-5 % in my file fit rings. But I have never used these Gap-Less ring and was wondering what everybody experience is. I read this from their website( Total Seal). What gets me is They did this WITHOUT honing the cylinders.

Blake when I got those readings it was on a cold engine.................
For the record I ran the leakdown on the new engine, this was just turned over by hand a few hundred times setting up the valvetrain etc..............cold the bitch on had 4-5%........and it aint even been run yet.
You guys with the higher numbers I don't know what to tell ya. Even on alky my motors have always had minimal blowby if hardly any at all, so I consider all the numbers legit.

Re: Gapless Rings
also in the gapless stuff, I believe alot of the HP increases are due to the reduction in contact area with the cylinder.

Re: Gapless Rings
2-3% seems to be the norm that Ive seen with traditional rings. The gapless rings may be slightly lower than that.
