429/460 HEADS SCJ CJ DOVE A,C
Hi everyone,
My name is Leonardo i have a gran torino 76 that came with a 400 cid, now i put a used engine Marquis IV 74 460 cid, new intake, 4160 750 carb, hookers headers, 9" rear 3.50 31 spline posi nodular. I am going to upgrade in order to get more power. My question is about the heads I found a couple of new aluminum heads, but at the same time i know there is a lot 70-71 SCJ, CJ DOVE A,C so if someone can help me about which of these heads can fit my engine becuase the aluminum are goods but 70-71 i do not know, but the big question is if i can put in my 460 any of them 429 SCJ CJ DOVE A,C or the aluminum, I am not a racer guy but I want to feel some power.
Thanks

A 1976 Gran Torino into which you installed a bone stock 1974 460 longblock, eh? I'd say that a ported set of early style passenger car heads (C8VE, C9VE, D0VE -- we call them "early style" because they're all essentially the same) is your best bet for raising compression and increasing power for a given amount of money spent.
Swap out the D3VE's for early-style heads and your compresion will jump from about 7.7:1 to around 9.1:1.
Beware that D3VE's use a different valve train that is not directly swappable to the early-style heads, and so you will need an aftermarket roller rocker valve train for the head swap (this is also true with any of the aluminum head choices).

Paul,
Thank you for your answer but let me get this right. When I got the engine there was a tag telling just use 91 octane but I saw the 7.7:1 compression this number is the compression of my engine now ? cuase the guy told it was 9.5:1.due the 91 octane requiered. what do you think. Anyway I am going to open the engine in order to find out the rigth compresion. if it is less than 9.5:1 i will get 10.0:1. The engine came with 75000 miles.
