One of the things I am thankful for today.
Both of my Grandfathers were vets. Dads was US ARMY . Moms was a purple heart recipient of the US AIR FORCE, fighter pilot, B52 bomber. They are no longer with us and I never knew my Moms dad, he died in his early 30's. Saw a post on the Yellowbullet about greatest acoustical songs ever.

I have lots of people in my life to be thankful for and one of them was my Father. He was a WW2 vet that was a Tank oper. in Phillipines. He never talked much about the war,he would just tear up when I would ask him about it.

I totally understand Rick. My Dad was an aircraft armorer in the Marine Corps in the South Pacific in WW2. He never talked about it. In fact, until he died and we got his Marine Corps records, I never knew what he did, I just knew he was a Marine. The guys who served back then didn't want to talk about it, at least none of my uncles who served did.

I think some of the reason they don't want to talk about it is that they put it behind them and don't want to, and another part is the horror that they experienced. My wife's grandad is a WWII vet and I've talked to him about it, soldier to soldier and he just says "I did what I was told". Sad to say, but if we don't remember history we are doomed to repeat it. His health is very bad now and I doubt he will see spring, but that tough old bird has hung on this long, and was one of the hardest working men I've ever known. He's 92 now and still one of my best friends and mentors. He is one of the guys that a lot of people look up to and respect. We had our after harvest party about a month ago and he went out with us, and the people that went out of their way to come say hi to him was amazing. I will say that when his time does come that it will be one of the largest funerals our church will ever see.
