9" disc brakes conversion
I thought I remember something about using a S10 aluminum brake caliper, with a 5 on 4.5 bolt space brake rotor and a bracket from some where. Anyone have a idea of what I am thinking of?

Haven't heard of the S10 stuff but an Explorer disk set up will work, that is what Ford Racing sells. It's a drum in hat design and is a pretty clean install.

Re: 9" disc brakes conversion
Bill the lower control a-arm is aluminum to you cam use the mustang adjustable coil over spring kit on the struts
Jones that might be a option you might want to look in on yours for some wieght loss.

Re: 9" disc brakes conversion
I noticed that A&A manufacturing sells a weld-on disc brake bracket that fits a GM metric style caliper with 5-1/2" between hole center line. Come Monday I might have to give them a call and see if they can tell me exactly which caliper and rotor it was designed for.

Go get a 2000s crown vic rear end out of a junkyard. The swap is pretty easy and only had to make some shims. Helped a friend do it to his 69 stang couple summers ago. I got some pics if you would like to see.

Re: 9" disc brakes conversion
Mr. Jones if I may comment. I'm not the best floating turd around , but I have changed a few drums to disc using parts from this and parts from that and all have worked pretty good. In the end after running here and running there to gather parts, fabricating this and fabricating that it was time consuming and not all that far ahead relative to expense! I started using Aerospace kits and components and haven't looked back! In the end, the upgrade looks nicer and in most cases performs better as well. The extra money involved will sure out weight the time it takes to complete a drum to disc conversion using this part and that part!
Just my $0.02.

Jones, Call these guy's. They can help steer you in the right direction. I assume since you are looking to do a conversion with shelf parts then the budget thing trumps everything else. Complete disc brake kits for the rear ...........$239 I really doubt you can wrangle up anything much cheaper.

They have a pretty good reputation as well. Keep in mind you get what you pay for, so don't expect a Lincoln for a escort price. JMO

if those work good, and I dont see any reason why they wouldn't, you really cant beat that price... even if you fabbed your own plates, and bought the items at the auto store.

Re: 9" disc brakes conversion
From everyone that I have chatted with via the great internet, all have given them good reviews. The ONE thing I see that I would do would be to fab some gussets to support the caliper weld on bracket. IMO this also would help keep the bracket plumb when welding. Other than that, you should be able to fab some presentable gussets for hardly nothing.

That's Quick Performance in Ames, Iowa. I've done business with them for over twelve years now. I know the owner and he is a stand up guy with great pricing on 9" Ford rear end components, complete housings, disc brakes conversions, etc. A+++ from me...

I'm a tech for the county Sheriff's....I have off a 03-newer C/V, rear calipers, brackets, mounting hardware....could use cleaning and some paint, but will let go for pennies on the dollar....I suggest new rotors and pads, I dont save those....and you can purchase either drilled or slotted H/P police rotors just about anywhere if you wanted to go that route...they do look cool...Mike

Sorry, I'll pass. (save on some shipping) I think I have gathered enough info to either pick-up everything I need from the parts store, if I don't order a kit.
