Degreeing a cam
Well I know I could just put the cam in the engine BUT, I want to do it the right way and degree it. I was thinking about the Summit degree kit

My cam is...

I wish there was a way around degreeing it so I could spend the money on something else. But are there any tips about degreeing a cam that I should know about other than what a manual will tell me? I know a bigger wheel is better since its more accurate, but right now I'm not doing it for a living so I'm not too worried about it. Overall I know how its done.

I wanted to get the 10" Jomar one from Jon Kaase for $70, but I need the dial indicator too. I mean I have a dial indicator but I'm not 100% sure how it works and I need the magnetic base. The dial indicator I have is out of my grandpas garage. I need the piston stop too which comes with both kits.res0rli9 wrote:For a few $ more you can get the good one that Lem has for sale in the for sale sec. imop

I take that back, I do have a magnetic base. I could just get the wheel and maybe fab something to stop the piston then. I heard of people doing it while the heads are on, but the heads don't have to be on today.

Re: Degreeing a cam
Cool, thanks for letting me know that. Maybe I'll do it with the heads on after I check the piston to deck clearance and drive a bolt in to the spark plug hole. I could get this kit then let my bro keep the dial indicator that my grandpa had since I kept all the micrometers from his garage too What did you set the magnetic base on? The side of the deck or maybe on top of the other lifter bores? Thanks a bunch.69F100 wrote:http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SUM-G1056/

Re: Degreeing a cam
with the heads on you need a old solid flat tappit lifter to use when degreeing it in

Re: Degreeing a cam
Dang right I do, it feels like its been so long. But I'm only 16, I can only imagine what it will be like when I'm in my older years. I like to look back at the good old days, hanging out with my friends. I can't tell you the last time I had a friend over or spent a day hanging out with one of them. I lost my best friend because I decided to take a different route than him. I can only try so hard to mend things, its sad. I really don't have friends like a 16 year old should have and I'm trying my best to make some GOOD friends that I can actually depend on. I try my best, its not an easy thing to admit either. I cherish everything I have, because of what I have lost.TravisRice wrote:bb429power wrote:That brings back some old memories from the cam swaps I have done69F100 wrote:used a screw driver to put down in the spark plug hole to fine top dead center.

Don't feel bad. I'm going to be 50 and can count the number of real friends I have on one hand.

Re: Degreeing a cam
Thanks for that, I'd at least like someone to hang out with while in school still. I'm in advanced auto right now and making better friends. I kill myself everytime I think about what happened between me and my best friend, he's the one who's dad raced a top alcohol dragster up until this year. His dads name is Jeff Bohr.Mike R wrote:Don't feel bad. I'm going to be 50 and can count the number of real friends I have on one hand.

Seems like I just turned 20 .......................... 20 years ago. Worst part about it is watching your parents get older.

Re: Degreeing a cam
That's gotta be tough, I would even hate knowing my kids are watching me get older. I want to be around for my kids (when and if I do have kids) for as long as I possibly can. And how many kids my age actually have something like that in perspective? I feel darn tootin' matureTravisRice wrote:Seems like I just turned 20 .......................... 20 years ago.
