Camshaft Degreeing question?
I have degreed my custom cam Lem had designed for me and I have did it a couple of times, so far I have came out with a 110 center line. The cam card shows a 109 center line. I have the ford racing timing gear set. I figure I am going to leave it at what it is and be done with it, am I thinking right about the 1 degree not making a big difference?

With all the dimension "stack-ups" involved, (crankshaft throw to keyway, bottom crank gear, chain irregulararities, top camshaft timing gear), I would say you got pretty lucky to have only 1 degree varience.
That is the reason for degreeing the cam, (to find out where it ACTUALLY is in THAT engine; correct it or leave it), otherwise simply installing it "dot to dot" would be good enough to begin with.

Being in at 110* is not going to hurt anything. Like Randy said, that's pretty good considering all the room for errors to creep up.

At 110* the cam is retarded....install advanced.....106*ish. 109* is not the centerline...it's the lsa.

The cam being in retard is not helping anything per this application.c.evans wrote:Being in at 110* is not going to hurt anything. Like Randy said, that's pretty good considering all the room for errors to creep up.

Okay, advance it and put it on 106* like what Lem suggested. He knows the cam specs and the weight of the vehicle, etc. I don't.

Ok I will put it like you say Lem, I have the card here and it says lobe seperation is 109. It also say here "these specs are for cam installed @ 109 intake center line. Either way thanks for this cam Lem. So far this thing should be a monster. I am going to put it on an engine dyno and perfect the setup instead of guessing where it would be at.

The card says what the events are if the cam is installed at 109*...straight up . It in no way says to install it there.
Re: Camshaft Degreeing question?
Thanks Lem. Most I have seen on the mod motors will say like ie 113 + 4, I thought since it didn'd have that advance in it to install it per card, but thanks for clearing that up for me. I will get it to 106.

Re: Camshaft Degreeing question?
Custom cams do not tell one where to install the cam....futher more the magic install on shelf cams is not perfect for all applications.

Thats why you have people like me who bug you every day and buy lots of parts from you, I love to learn all I can.
