F150 5x5.5 to 5x4.5 wheel conversion
Just thought I would post this information.
I was complaing about the 5 on 5.5 bolt pattern on my 93 model F150 has and a local friend informed me how to change out to 5 on 4.5.
When you go to the autoparts store just ask for a 1980-82 model F100, under 4,600lb model. Some stores have it under the small 6 cylinders and some ask for the gross weight. (Meassure just incase) They will use the same bearings and seals as the larger bolt pattern.
I am going to find out this afternoon if the hub diameter will fit the standard 5 on 4.5 wheels and take some pictures.

You are saying to buy new axles for the 80-82 truck? what about the front rotors?

No, I am talking about the front rotors on a 2wd. Not 100% on a 4wd.

Re: F150 5x5.5 to 5x4.5 wheel conversion
I scrapped out the front from my 82 f100 before I decided to go back to 2wd .
My neighbor ended up with the wheels on his 90 ranger. He wanted to switch to 15" wheels.
The 5x4.5 axles out of the 9" are still out in the garage. The housing is under my truck with moser axles now.
Josh let us know if the f100 hub fits on the f150 spindles. I may have to change mine so I can get some cheap skinnys.

I haven't packed the bearings and torqued the rotors down yet because I don't have a set of wheels with 5 on 4.5 yet, so it might be a while before I get it completely done. All the bearings and seal off the F150 dry fit perfect in the F100 rotors though.

Re
Does anyone have more information on this conversion? I did as suggested above for my 95 F150 2wd and the conversion isn't a direct bolt on. The Hub/rotor assembly from the 95 is almost an inch longer than the 80-83 assembly and the outside bearing to outside bearing measurement is about .400 longer on the 95. Am I missing something?
Re: F150 5x5.5 to 5x4.5 wheel conversion
Wish I could help but never tried the swap.
I'm curious of the differences myself now!
My 2wd front is from a 1989 f150. Alway thought (not confirmed) 80-96 were the same.
Alan can you post up the outside-outside bearing measurements for both?
Spindle dimensions from the 95 also if possible.
I'll try to tear down my 89 hub this weekend and we can compare notes.
Wish I had a 80-83 spindle to measure.

They are the same Mike, since the earlier post said the hub/rotor was a bolt on, I purchased them from the 80-83 F100 under 4600 and they were a 5x4.5. Problem is for those to work you would also need the spindle assembly from the same year which is not readily available. Because of the dimensional differences, I ended up taking those back and buying new hubs/rotors for the 95, then we put them in a lathe to turn down the step (the 5x5.5 wheels have a bigger center hole), then located and drilled the 5x4.5 bolt pattern. After that, you have to turn the hubs over and use an end mill to counter sink a larger hole for the stud heads. Not a big deal if you have the equipment or have friends that have the equipment

Thanks Allen!
I may do the same as you and redrill what I have. The machining isn't a problem at all for me.
Now I need to save up for wheels and tires.

Re: F150 5x5.5 to 5x4.5 wheel conversion
I'm with ya Mike lol. I did find some nice summit racing brand wheels at some real nice prices, but I am a long way away from that. Right now I am trying to gather the parts for the motor. All I am lacking right now is pistons, bearings, distributor, oil pan and intake.
Re: F150 5x5.5 to 5x4.5 wheel conversion
The information I posted was for a two wheel drive only, no clue about the four wheel drives. Worked great on my two wheel drive.
