557 question???
What mods need to be done to make a stock block a 557? I here several different opinions about this. I thought the block is good to this size without mods. Is this true??

Re: 557 question???
If you have a block that will bore to 4.440" and add a 4.5" crank you will have the 557".
Gennerally you'll need to deck the block and check the align hone of the main bores.

Re: 557 question???
Nothing special for the stroker, just the typical stuff you should do on a build anyway..............

557"
X2 what Lem said,
For my frame of mind and to find out how many more bores/hones the block may have left in it I got my block sonic checked, then did a half full cement job, added 4-bolt mains and good to go for some HP & RPM's.
FWIW Mark

Re: 557 question???
I have a set of headers that were built for my car. They fit my cast heads but are definitely over sized. I did this on purpose because the future heads I wanted to use....either A460 or P51. Can I get adapters or will my headers not work with these heads??

Re: 557 question???
I really would want to stay with the stock block because of weight savings. I know many would think this is dumb but I feel a stock block can handle some serious power if built right. The A460 block is about 100# heavier if I'm not mistaken?

Re: 557 question???
P51 heads will work with your headers as long as yours are the scj size, A460 heads your getting new headers lol. I'd go with an A460 block and make it a big bore to get some weight out of it.........I'd rather pay the price for the addition weight and have the better block anyway.

Why couldn't A460 work? Couldn't I get adapters made or are the ports completely way off??

Re: 557 question???
No sir they are not 100# heavy. I posted a deal the other day show the 32#s Jetboat Bob bored out of an A460 block. It will be heavier but they can be so much bigger1Bad91 wrote:I really would want to stay with the stock block because of weight savings. 4.56 bore X 4.3 stroke P51 deals seem to work pretty good...............

Re: 557 question???
lets just say you wont need a silly blue bottle and you'll be more worried about tires and suspension rather than header size and block weight.............

Re: 557 question???
I would think a 4.5 stroke would be a better deal with that much bore. I'm getting the impression of a short stroke big bore deal?? This the idea?? What size motor is this anyway?

557"
How about 846hp ?? LOL.
I think a filled DOVE block @ 4.44" weighs very close to an unfilled A460 that is bored to 4.56+ or larger. I guess alot of it will depend on your budget and/or who your builder is and what is charged. The A460 will obviously let you grow for future builds.

Re: 557 question???
I recently read in hotrod or popular hotrodding or one of those mags about a kaase stroker build where he was going to use a 4.5 arm then after mockup switched to a 4.3 because he felt the pistons were pulling too far out of the bores. Anyone had this experience with an early block?

Re: 557 question???
found it
"Look closely and you'll notice that our first-choice 4.500-stroke Scat crank pulled virtually the entire piston skirt out of the bottom of the cylinder sleeve. This obviously was not going to work, and since we already had the pistons, we elected to move down to a 4.300-inch-stroke Scat crank and 0.100-inch-longer rods."
