DD 09 F150 getting a tune-up !!!dyno graphs!!!
Taking the daily driver down to JMS in the morning to put it on the dyno and have an catback exhaust installed. Going to get a good baseline dyno session before the mods are added.
The truck recieved a Magnaflow offroad cat-back exhaust system, SCT tuner and Voliant air intake for Chirstmas. I'll take a video of the dyno session and once all the parts are installed and tuned it will go on the dyno again.

I don't know, but if you're right, this post should get up around 15,000 views.

Ah... Maybe I should swap to green oil and add alky injection (snow kit)? That would be atleast a 300hp gain.

Re: DD 09 F150 getting a tune-up !!!dyno graphs!!!
Had a great time at JMS today. I didn't know exactly how long it was going to take to get down there from Philadelphia. So I just left the house at 5:30am stopped and got some breakfast in Meridian. Ended up arriving at JMS by 8:24am. Gate was open and front door was open. Stepped inside to find Chip! They got my truck loaded on the dyno for Monty to arrive and get right to work.
The first dyno pull earned us this sad looking dyno graph! ( you can see what I have been complaing about to Ford, the tugging sensation)
Unloaded the truck off the dyno and pulled it into the service bay to install the exhaust. Took maybe 15min to unbolt the factory exhaust and bolt on the new! A lift really makes it easy!!
No the truck heads back to the dyno building. Strap it down, download the new tune and let her eat! I kid you not, to our surprise we was granted the following dyno graph! (the little dip is from him turning the dyno on and rolling into the throttle to keep the truck from down shifting)
Since it was such a large difference in improvement Monty wanted to let the truck warm-up a little more and make another dyno pull. Just to make sure it wasn't some sort of a fluke. Once again almost identical dyno graphs except a little better in some areas due to the extra heat in the engine.
As soon as I can figure out how to download videos from my iphone I'll pop them up.
All things said, I'll give JMS two thumbs up all around. Everyone was professional and Monty took the time to explain things to me. Chip was great working with me over the phone on finding the best prices for the parts. Definitely a good experience!

Jones how much of that increase was due to the upgaded exhaust and how much was the new tune? Did make any runs with just the exhaust and not the tune?

No pulls with tune only. Monty the tuner said that the largest gain is from the tune. Turning off all the nanny controls.

AHHH, More information please? What model SCT tuner? Canned or custom tunes? I have a 2010 FX4 and can just feel the tugging sensation the graph shows clearly. That sure is a great improvement over stock. As far as driveability goes is the poor throttle response and 2 minute kickdown to pass time improved?

It is a custom tune, throttle response is greatly improved and kick down passing response is much better. I have been driving around with the eco tune and it appears I am getting 2mpg better fuel mileage. (if I can keep my foot out of it.) She loves to spin the tires now.
Just give JMS a call and speak with Chip or Monty. www.jmschip.com JMS actualy started SCT back in the 90's and the programer they sold me doesn't have a model name on it besides SCT.
We are suppose to have a track day next month and I will try to get some track times. Once I get some track times we are going to play with the shift points going into 5th and 6th.

Many thanks Jones, I was going to go with PHP. I will be contacting Chip or Monty for my programmer and tunes, Just can't argue with those numbers.
Thanks again

Here is a picture of the Volant intake. I didn't have this on when we did the dyno pulls, I'm waithing for the tracks to open before I send them a data log so they can see if there needs to be cahnges made to the tune. The engineers at SCT say that the factory computer should make the needed changes.
This is the kit that uses the Donaldson filter and not the re-oil type.

Looking at your AFR curve it is going to be interesting to see if the computer will compensate or not. Allegedly the factory air box does very well and only a small improvement is made going to an aftermarket. Looking forward to the update.

No reason it wouldn't - that's the whole point of the mass-air meter - it senses the the actual air flow getting to the motor, so if there's an improvement, the computer will know and be able to adjust accordingly . If it were speed-density, the computer would need to be manually re-calibrated.
Re: DD 09 F150 getting a tune-up !!!dyno graphs!!!
With the small change I would guess it will compensate accordingly but, The stock A/F's don't allow proper enrichment explaining why with stock calibration these trucks are such dogs.

it turned out to be the factory engine tune, torque management or emission control. You can see the tugging sensation on the first dyno graph. The throttle blades where closing even though we had the throttle wide open. I'm not 100% sure what he turned off.

The factory tune is very, very lean.

Well I got the same one we've been dickin with for months scattered all over a table right now, FSE even came up and went through it with me.......funny there was nothing mechanical wrong. Customer is already whining, lemon law etc, which is good he can take it back to the selling dealer and let them mess with it.
