why it good to mic everything
I got a 460 here rebuilding for a memember here the rod bearing was not marked .010 but main were marked .010 so when he carried it to get the crank checked and polished it had been turned .010 rods .010 on mains the crank shaft wasn't marked. When I got my pistons from Mark I put one down in his to find it was to small for the hole mine are standard his is over size but how much not sure with out micing it the pistons don't have a over size marking of any kind on them.Myself I have never ran across a piston that was not stamped the over size on it.But this one has reminded me why you need to mic or have everything mic to make sure what you have on a engine build.

My inside mic's don't seem accurate. I need to figure it out, but the tips are flat so I don't really see how I could get an accurate measure of the inside of a cylinder in the first place. Dey were miy gran daddies

You really should invest in a bore gage for that. You can get pretty good ones on ebay for under $100. Just make sure to get one that is accurate to .0005. Some are only .001. These are great for measuring rod and main bores for bearing clearance too.
Should use a decent mic to set up your bore gage too, not a vernier caliper.

Bore gauges are the shiz nit! So much quicker and easier to use, plus they are more accurate.AK wrote:bb429power wrote:My inside mic's don't seem accurate.
