How to tell if a motor is externally or internally balanced
Guys its a 545 stock block steel crank. Thats all we have and dont have a clue which flywheel or ballancer we need.thanks

Without taking it apart and checking ... Pick one and install the components.
If it vibrates excessively ... it's the other.

Do you know the manufacturer of the crank?? It should have a part number or some identifying character stamped on it somewhere.

My buddy just put it together thats when we looked at the flywheel that came with the motor it had weights on it.

I think its a scat crank that what the strocker kit was. I know its steel

balance
i have an older 545 stoker engine and it is external balance withe the hatchet on the crank spacer and a weight on the flexplate.not sure what crank eagle or scat but it is a cast crank.

No hatchet on crank

If it's an externally balance stroker motor, wouldn't it still have the hatchet weight on the front of the crank?

I assumed when the OP said the motor was together, it mean't it was all together - my mistake.

If it came with an external flywheel from wher you bought it I'd run it with it.
The balancer are zero with either, you will have a spacer with the hatchet if it's external.
