I was looking at these carbs but what sucks is if your running a spray bar plate you need at least a 1" or more spacer for the butterfly to clear the spray bars. making for a rather tall and gaudy looking set-up not to mention hood clearance issues that could arise..

SV1
I heard that some people are having lean-out issues on the top side with the SV-1 carb...anyone else heard anything on this ?

I saw on on a SBF a few month back, Didn't witness it run, but looking a the exhaust runners it had some real fuel distrubution issues with the SV1. After talking with the operator he told me they couldn't get it to work on that perticular engine...... and from what I have heard they do not work on all engines or applications 100%.
And no I'm not trying to talk negitive about Patrick or his products, I think the Guy is First Rate. I'm only relaying what I saw.

I saw the same thing on a 347 ford, exhaust port showed excessively lean to excessively fat from front to rear, and on the dyno it started surging real bad up around where peak hp should have been.

Anytime you see them surging...that simply means the SV1 is too big. The smallest one we build is 1100 REAL cfm thats not a BS number. It would take an honest 750 h.p. for a 347 to get up on that SV1. I can't ever remember anyone getting an SV1 built for a 750 h.p. 347 so it sounds like a borrow it and try it deal. No way is it gonna work.
As far as lean down track. Not with an SV1. It uses big fuel ports that will move plenty of fuel. They are ALL Q16 compatible and will move fuel to a 109 Holley jet unlike most four barrel carbs that stop moving fuel at about a #102 jet. If you can keep the bowls fuel they can flood the engine out if needed.
If you see fuel distribution issues it also means the carb is too big as they are traditionally much more even than a four barrel. BUT if the air speed is not there it will surge and pop the booster on and off. Unlike four barrel that will just not get up and go..the SV1 will try to work even if its too big.
The one thing you will find is if you have a rich or a lean corner for any reason the SV1 jet change will actually effect that corner. Unlike a four barrel that oftentimes the signal and fuel may be coming from a different venturi than the cylinder its actually over.
Hot off the dyno this weekend: Bischoff Engine Service used a pair of SV1's to feed their 860 inch Hemi for their Cougar. It made 1800 h.p. (on the engine).
To Quote Tony Bischoff "The fuel curve was perfect top to bottom, you could tune any cylinder to any air to fuel ratio you like AND they roll into the throttle so well it felt unnatural."
